Salt water gargles or mouth wash gargles for the throat. When you no longer have a fever, or need to take something for fever can think about gym. However make sure you are rehydrated, you are young just wait to you actually feel like lifting.
Oh I feel bad for you! Mono was probably the worst thing I’ve ever gone through in my life.
I got hit last year, and didn’t realize what it was. I thought I had a real bad cold (lost my voice for a week(, so when the acute symptoms went away, I started training again. Long story short, I ended up at the cardiology department and had to stay there overnight. When the doctors had checked my heart, they thought that I had hepatitis because my liver and spleen were so affected.
Anyway, take mono seriously. The more you rest now, the shorter time it’ll be before you can get back into business. I was out for 4 months, and started getting back in the game VERY slowly.
Tips? Rest, rest, rest, rest. Take a nap as many times a day you can. Don’t drink alcohol. Boost your diet with vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. Drink liqourice tea. Don’t do things which stresses you or your system. Basically you need to live as if you have adrenal fatigue.
And finally, don’t get depressed. It sounds ridiculous, but I was so depressed after a month or two. Make sure to do something that makes you happy every day, keep seeing your friends etc.
The older you are when you get it, the harder it hits you.
If you’re 15, you might be well after a couple of weeks or a month. Not when you’re in your 20s…
I had the mono + strep combo once. Sickest I’ve ever been. My tonsils had green/black holes in them from the strep, and I could basically taste them rotting in my throat. It was pretty fucking horrible. I suggest tons of rest, and whatever you can eat/drink to get good nutrition.
I made a huge pot of soup with all kinds of soup bones, pork, beef, chicken, all together, and threw in a ton of spinach and other greens for some vitamins. I drank the broth from that for a few days.
Thanks guys, the worse part of it is the sore throat for me. I can stand the fatigue and fever its just my throat that’s pissing me off, feels like I swallowed a razor.
Take mono seriously! I had when I was 21 and was hospitalized for week with IV. I probably had it for about a month before it decided to slam me. i wrote off the tired and fatigue as a result of just intense training. I was napping everyday. I can affect your liver. It is recommended to cease all physical training when you have Mono.
I think I resumed training about 3 weeks after being discharged from the hospital. I probably should’ve waited longer. It’s been so long ago I don’t remember the doctor’s recommendation and it is likely I didn’t listen…being 21 and invincible.
I was actually about to make a thread about this. I got diagnosed with mono 2 weeks ago. I went home sick the doctor couldn’t tell me what I had an prescribed me some antibiotics. The next day my fever went up to 104.8 went back and was diagnosed with mono. I’m over most of the symptoms but the fatigue keeps getting worse. I go to college, and play rugby, and have been going to class, I was wondering if there was anything I could do to not get completely out of shape. Not being able to go to the gym or do physical activity is killing me.
Mono can cause swelling of your liver and most commonly your spleen. NO heavy lifting or physical exercise if I were any of you
I just got strep dx today and I got an rx for Lidocaine mouth gargle.

I can sympathize with you. When I had mono, my lymph nodes swelled up so my throat would kinda rub on itself every time I swallowed. Made eating and drinking a huge pain.
gargling with a warm water:peroxide (1:1 ratio) every couple hours helps all my throat problems. never had mono though. might want to make that 2:1 ratio at the start if you choose to try this, it feels weird to gargle peroxide.
Hate to be Debbie Downer, Mono was one of the worst things for me. As many here know, I was a pretty good HS cross country runner. Won my conference as a Sophmore, Went to states ETC… Bla Bla Bla, well Got Mono In the Spring of my Sophmore year and missed half the track season because of my swelled liver and stuff. I was never the same at runs of any distance. I mean it was like my ability to transfer oxygen from lungs to muscles was compromised in some way during that event, which was partially the reason I transitioned to mid distance and sprinting as a junior and senior. Anyways, I ran through it for about a month and a half, thinking the side pains were just stiches from running and the tiredness was from training hard. Take it seriously and rest.

I had that shit when deployed, on a boat. Talk about shitty…
I had to stay out of the gym for months when I had mono. I almost blacked out just trying to walk to class.
