It's Log!

I don’t think it was lack of thought, probably TOO much thought. I do small ramps like that sometimes too and often times have to remind myself to get out of the habit. Mainly because I don’t rest a whole lot between sets, so getting that close to max and small ramps will equal fails and one mad Nikki. You never know what you’re capable of once you start removing doubt. I think small ramps like that stem from doubt and trying to amp yourself up. Just gotta take the plunge lol

Anywho!
Awesome that you identified the problem. Great sesh.

Brute!! =D Thank you. (no yuo!)

Hi Betty!

Nikki, yes you are so right about that. That doubt thing gets in the way a LOT.

Really quick post before I forget. (I haven’t had much chance to read or post in PW lately) I was too busy last night to update my log but I did get my workout in. I’ve gotten some feedback and I’m going to change my training a bit and focus some more effort on my clean and jerks and less on squats. We’ll see how that goes! It’ll be a light workout tonight.

Wednesday’s workout:

snatch
bar
70x3
75x3
80x3
85x2,2
90x1,1,1
95x0,0,0

c&j
95x3
105x1
110x1,1
115x1
120x1
125x0 (missed jerk)
125x0 “”
125x1 not very nice though
130x0

back squats
140x4
155x3
170x3
180x3
185x3

Late to watch the 210 squat, great try you’ll get that next time. Looks like bar got a little in front of your feet and threw you off a bit. Strength is definetly there to get that weight and more!

Thanks Germanone!

HarHar, no nothing today. I didn’t even run. Just napped and ate ice cream and watched hockey. I’ll probably do some snatches with ONLY the bar in a few because I must but other than that, that’s about it!

It’s settled now that I am a 63kg lifter. I have been at steady 140lbs give or take a pound for well over a week I think so I think it’s not just water and it’s going to stick. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

No training how about some back pics

And another.

So incorporating some great coaching advice and feedback and program recommendations:

Snatches

  • NO POWER SNATCHES until I can get under the bar
  • draw a line on platform and stay behind it, no jumping forward!
  • chest over bar more
  • raise hips higher at set
  • every lift look the same, at any weight
  • HIPS!!! Must retreat the hips - biggest weakness
  • when form breaks down and I get stuck, keep taking off weight until it’s good again and move up as it’s good
  • no more than 3 fails!

Cleans

  • connect with hips/upper thighs
  • catch with fingertips
  • get much heavier!!! I should be able to get to my 3rm of front squat and I’m not sure what that is but I can do 5x5 of 155 so I should be able to get 155 without much trouble…so I’m writing that down as a todo

Jerks

  • faster change in direction
  • need to hear front foot hit platform, I’m too gentle
  • head through!
  • rear leg needs to be turned in
  • dip and drive straighter
  • reach more with front foot

general

  • squat less (once a week!?? ack I dunno must try it. trust! it’s going to be hard. Squats are my win when my lifts suck. Hopefully my lifts won’t suck as much and I won’t need them as much)
-shorter training. No more than 75 minutes
  • rest between reps- sit!
  • rest between snatches and c&js - take 15 minutes
  • more cleans and jerks
  • add some light OHS, good mornings
  • BTN presses (scared of those!!!) for straightening up the jerk
  • don’t do 5x5 front squats, to hard on wrists

Monday

  • triples, 5 second pause snatches, snatches without moving feet
    -clean& jerks

Wednesday

  • warm up snatches with bar 3x5, don’t move feet at all doing 20 snatches light weight 20 minutes. Work on getting all reps the SAME and not jumping forward.
-swinging hang cleans, connect with hips
-3 doubles - pause clean, clean then jerk
    -btn push presses 5x5

Friday

  • max snatch
  • max clean & Jerk
  • OHS 3x5,5x5 lightish
  • good mornings lightish 3x10

Weekend
-squats and lifts

wow. looks like you did get a talking to. cool  looks really good.

  • chest over bar more
  • raise hips higher at set

hmm… thats interesting. stylistic variation, i think.

i’m an under 63kg lifter, too. dammit. i must get stronger :-/

your back is looking awesome!

Thanks Alex! I’m not sure about the raise hips higher at set, I think I might have that wrong.

Having all that new info it was really hard to not work out last night!

That’s a great plan and checklist. I could do with following a lot of that advice myself.

Not sure about squatting only once per week though!

OMG Deb! You’re physique is beyond perfect! Those back muscles are ridic!! And of course your ass is insane. NOM!

It’s so interesting to read your cues and what things need to be worked on. I honestly don’t know what half that stuff is, but I sure am interesting in hearing how it helps!

Did you get this feedback from a specific coach or is this just a conglomeration of info?

What’s the reasoning behind not moving feet during snatches?

And only squatting 1x a week?! But why?

Anyways, I’m totally looking forward to your new lifting regime. Looks like fun!

I covet your back…

your hard work is showing!!

yeah, i’d like another squat day in there. doesn’t have to be too heavy. maybe some more upper body work… pendlay rows, DB rows, push press, something like that. doesn’t have to be complicated, or too heavy either for that matter.

actually, show Donny Shankle that and I bet he can help you out better w/ regards to programming.

<3 Nikki! Thanks guys for the compliments! I post these flexing pics as a form of acceptance because they freak me out (still!) so I appreciate it mucho. To self-> you will like your muscles dammit!! :o)

Brett, yeah that’s going to be hard for me but I’m going to try it. I just need to bring my cleans up to a decent front squat weight!

Thanks Maschy! I got feedback from a coach. Or a talking to, as Alexus put it  The reason I should not move my feet doing snatches is because I’m jumping forward a lot. Also, as Diana pointed out earlier, getting too much air time. The squatting is because I have a really strong squat compared to my lifts and the energy would be better spent improving my lifts. Also, heavy cleans should improve my squat.

Thanks Betty! I covet your lats and quads!

I can do all that stuff on Tuesdays and Thursdays or the weekend as long as I don’t go too crazy. I probably will because I can’t handle that much idle time!! I will be doing BTN push presses though.

Haha one day I’m going to regret having these pics in my log

Friday’s workout -max attempts

I felt really good about my lifts tonight. I put a line of tape on the platform and stayed behind it for all my lifts I think (except for a couple of accidental power cleans that were less than controlled) Getting it in my head to retreat my hips made a HUGE difference. I managed to get triples up to 85lbs and almost made 90lb triple. My 95lb snatches weren’t great but weren’t bad either (okay a little bad :stuck_out_tongue: I think one was decent). I think my problem with the 100lb attempt is getting psyched at a new weight. I feel it is close. I have to get over how the weight feels at the first pull because it doesn’t matter.

I felt a lot more confident having had my big problems pointed out so I could do something about them instead of just hitting a wall and getting frustrated. The cues really really helped.

I went a little longer than I should have with the snatches however.

My cleans were so freaking easy now that I know they should be  Funny how that works! I got some PRs but still psyched myself out at 140lbs. I did get the 135lb jerk but it wasn’t pretty. The clean wasn’t a problem at all. One thing I was told was the nice relaxed first pull is good and so doing that on all of the attempts (except the 140–this is why I didn’t make it, I was scared of it) My jerks need a LOT of work. I have a lot of corrections to think of at once and that’s making it a challenge. I’ll have to figure out what to work on first.

But with my jerks needing so much work I think that means I got some technique lag and hopefully that means a lot more weight when I get it sorted out? Hope so! =D

snatch
bar
70x3,3
75x3
80x3
85x3
90x2(missed#3)
95x1(missed 2nd attempt of double)
100x0,0
95x1 power snatch not pretty
95x0
40 minutes

rest 15 minutes and a bowl of Breyer’s dark chocolate ice cream (what? :stuck_out_tongue: )

clean&jerk
bar
95x3
105x2
115x1
120x1
125x1
130x1 I think I’ve got that before? At least on the clean.
135x1 woo!
140x0,0,0

I got a bunch of video I might post it tomorrow. But it’s so late tonight. That was really good though! =)))

Wow. So much to catch up on in here deb! PRs. Pics. All of your awesomeness is a bit overwhelming.

I love coming in here to watch your vids… so fucking beautiful to watch your lifts.

I squat in compression tights in the winter which does feel awesome. It is way too hot in the gym now for those :frowning:

That ice cream sounds delicious.

Hey Veggie!

Some vids:

Clean & Jerk-the jerk is pretty lame but I’ll take it  Those are my new 45lb bumpers.

A whole bunch of snatches. Starting from 70lbs and ending at my attempt at a 95lb double.
