Hello, and thank you! To be honest I just started trying the Klokov. It does feel different as if it is targeting other areas of the upper body, just a new challenge, and no I do not compete (yet) ;),thinking I may like to find out more about it. I am about 138 pounds currently and would like to get to 132 while remaining at the same strength… do you do any competitions?
I compete in Raw meets and right now with Raw United, a federation based here in Florida. I think the title of this thread is so important as a concept that could help countless people. Having a purpose strengthens the will and drive of person to accomplish great things whether it be in lifting or going to college.
I think I am going to incorporate Klokov presses in my routine this week and use them for a while to observe the benefits.
It’s easy to drop 6 pounds in water weight to compete and then you can rehydrate after weigh-ins.
The most important thing about competing is to sign up for the meet, commit to training for 8 to 12 or more weeks for peaking, know the rules of the federation you’re competing in, seek training from someone who had recent experience in powerlifting, and showing up and giving 110% at the competition. Making the goal by signing up and showing up for the competition is a victory. Then you’ll find other lifters and viewers at the meet are just about all cheering you and other lifters on. It’s exhilarating, challenging, and personally rewarding.
Hi, Thank you for the information, sounds like you really enjoy it, which is the most important part. I think the Klokov seems to be good so give it a try. I have been on a 9 week program currently to build strength, plan to do a few rounds of strength building to see where I am at for max weight/reps.
I think that sounds like a good goal, and lots of fun, competitions are more about competing with yourself in my opinion. I have an internal battle daily to do better than the day before :). Have a good week of workouts!
I agree with you the competition is with yourself. Good lifting to you too.

Welcome back! Hope you and the family had a fun time. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Deads and Squats on video looked rock solid. Great work all around.
Hi, I finally took the time to read through most of your log, I was going to just skim, but good stuff.
Your training makes mine look like your warm up! Dang!!
Thanks JJACK and UP! I highly doubt that you look pretty fit UP! Im gonna tough it out and get really strong! Jean looking forward to seeing you Wednesday during the day this week. I have a kindergarten thingy tonight so had to go in today…If i get done in time I may come in but its not looking good.
So, you drive back from your East Coast trip and arrive yesterday, get the family settled in, train this morning, attend a school event in the evening, and in the middle of all of that, you think of me, search for my lost phone # since your phone died, and phone when I’m already at the gym to ask whether or not I need someone to spot me?? Really?! Megaloca also tried to come in before her evening school event to help me out. All I can say is that I don’t know what I did to deserve such great friends as you, but I’m blessed and appreciate you both!
Looking forward to mid-week training. Again, thanks so much for making the time tonight! I owe ya one! ![]()
Side note funny: After you left, the dude that squatted after me decided that he knew way more than I and started coaching me on how to do my rows. I was nice but all I could say was, “Um…I’m doing Pendlay rows, not whatever it is you’re doing…” to which he replied, “Well, maybe I do them this way because I’m so tall and can’t bend that low…” Uh-huh. Thanks, Buddy…is that why you do half squats, too?! I’ll take it from here. Step away from the bar…

You’re a wonderful person Jean! I’m so glad that Rick pulled us all together. We make a great group. Heading into the gym now for some kid free time a.k.a. mobility work.
