I went to your log to write “stop slacking” but after reading your ailments, i decided that would be terribly insensitive. So…blah.

STOP SLACKING, ANDREW!

Cal: you always make me laugh.

Dasher: Did you run track or X-Country in college?

800 meter sprints ?

Woman, you don’t have blood in your veins, more like hydraulic fluid.

I actually didn’t do any collegiate sports. I ran cross country and played basketball/soccer in high school. Got to college and wanted to be a kid, ended up with type 2 diabetes (oddly) and redirected my focuses to athletics outside of college. Ran a couple of marathons because thats what girls did at the gym I was a part of. Hated it, was skinny fat, and met a girl who did figure and picked up weights and havent quit since. Did some powerlifting for a few years and that bred more iron sports: oly lifting, strongman contests. The strongman shit pushed me towards more metabolic stuff and I ended up crossfitting for a while. Then I decided that being random for the sake of being random didnt make sense and I looked back into powerlifting. I kept a lot of principles along the way so my training is very broad. When I was an undergrad, I did an internship with the athletic department (that I will actually soon be working for) and got placed with the track team and BAM…my sprinting took off from there. Its funny how it all panned out.

Maxy–its blood and caffeine, baby! and carbs.

You serious? You were skinny fat!

If so I am sure there are a number of people on here including me who would love to see a pic of this skinny fat Dasher whom you speek of.

All we see is crazy hot dasher!

cheers, Spook

caffine ftw!!!

carbs, too. i’m amazed at the difference carbs make before strength training.

Spook—only after lots of work. I was skinny fat for a while. I will see if I can 1. scare up a picture and 2. bear to let it see light. Some of us have to work twice as hard to look half as good.

Alexus–yeah girl! Huge difference. I always have my cheat meal on my deadlift/ham day.

I havent been a good logger, but I have been an excellent dieter this week!! Its also my deload week so im playing around a lot this week. Yesterday I went on a 112 mile bike ride with my sister. Half way through we stopped at a winery and did a little sister shopping. Good times.

Today, business as usual.

this AM: As fast as possible
15 Deadlifts @155#
15 Man Makers @ 25#
15 Dips
400m incline jog (21% incline on freemotion treadmill, 6.5mph WOOF)
12 Deadlifts
12 Man Makers
12 Dips
400m incline jog
9 DL
9 Man Makers
9 Dips

finished with a 2 mile run.

PM workout:
10 rounds 10 reps…
-Pushups
-Tricep Pushups
-Dive Bomber pushups
-sit ups
-leg levers
-4 count flutterkicks
-Lunges(per leg)
-Broad Jumps
-Box Jumps
-Pull ups
-Dips

For a bunch of body weight shit, that last workout really sucked. I mean…really sucked.
Man Maker: with dumbbells in each hand, jump down and out like you would a burpee, pushup, 1 arm row, push up, one arm row, jump forward like you would in a burpee and press the weight overhead as you stand up. Barf.

sounds like you have a dream job to me. i’m sure the reality will be mixed, as realities often are, but i’m looking at a way to get my hobby involved in my work… because it is much much more than a hobby to me.

getting more satisfaction out of the functions bar / cafe work i’m doing because i get to practice walking around and stretching my feet and hindu squatting loads of dinner plates. can hardly bear to shut my body out (let it cramp up all weird) doing what i need to do to focus on my writing these days (which i think is a pile of shit for the most part anyways since what can i be expected to know about anything given how relatively young / new i am)?

you are rocking the bodyweight stuff (dips and pullups and pushups etc). awesome  i always get a nice sense of bodily empowerment in the bodyweight stuff. i’m sure i’d get much more out of it if i was better at it.

I really liked working in fitness. There are highs and lows: notably, Body Dimorphic Dirorder is rampant. Other than that, though…it doesnt feel like work. I left this job previously because I thought I needed to do something “adult” and be a grown up for a change…so I jumped ship to research. If research equates being an adult, I never want to grow up. I realize that doing something less enjoyable doesnt make me more of an adult. Im excited. The college setting suited me well.

Alexus–have you thought about training? It has its own pros and cons. As for the bodyweight stuff: i only got better when I got bands

do you mean about becoming a personal trainer? i’m not sure i’d do well in that. i’ve seen personal trainers… for the most part they work on commission and… um… i’m not sure how i’d go being a sales person (some of the same issues as MOM, i think).

i’ve looked into physical therapy / physiotherapy but that basically isn’t an option to me in these parts (because of the math requirement on the entry tests).

i’ve looked into chiropractor and that seems dodgey as hell in these parts (most of the teaching institutions aren’t affiliated with the accrediting body and i can’t do one that is).

i’ve tried to pick up even a part time job in the gym and no luck there (think they want the bubbly cutsy type rather than the seriously training set of the lunk alarm type which seems to be a bit how they think of me).

i’m looking into doing a Bachelor of Science degree with joint major in sports movement mechanics and nutrition. Might possibly be able to do that (via student loan and allowance scheme). But then I’d still need grad study for work in the field - and definately will have run out of loan / allowance at that point. It does require a move back to NZ too, which I’m not particularly thrilled about.

Don’t know to tell you the honest truth. At a bit of a loss. I’m actually (first time I’ve said it)… I think I might not finish my PhD. I hate it. There. I’ve said it. I fucking hate it.

If I have learned one thing through the last year it is this:

There is no room to spend time learning to do something you hate.

I have side-stepped away from that a few times and dabbled in figure and bikini, which I like. Right now, I would like to improve my conditioning, so I have been throwing in a bit of metabolic work after the strength work I do. Currently, Im trying the ole 5/3/1 as its an approach I really havent tried yet. I like it.

Thanks Maym! In the past month, I did a push/pull and a strongman and then this local tire flip contest. Now im kinda open to ideas. I need to reassess goals, i suppose.

Thanks for logging. You have some great metabolic am workouts. I might have to steal and modify them to fit my fitness level when I cut up for spring bodybuilding. Do you remember the galaxy competitions that were for women? They included obstacle courses and bodyweight exercises for reps. They were really meant for a well-rounded athlete like you.

lots of good stuff here!!

Maym—If I could find a galaxy competition, i would so jump all over that. Perhaps I should research it. And, by all means, swipe any of these workouts.

MiM—My assistant! Thanks ma.

Wow. I think I just developed an e-crush on you, Dash! You definitely had me at tire flips.

And a real man could care less about your callouses. I find them attractive. Means you enjoy getting down to the nitty-gritty.

Oh yeah? How do you feel when I say the word “sledge hammer”?
I’m glad you stopped in
