It happens every year, the crowds, the lost looks, the aimless wondering around, it’s always the same.
Thankfully, it never lasts too long, and those of us who’ve thought about it can avoid it.
The dreaded January Gym Rush.
The machines (both cardio and weight) are going to be in use, probably with a 5 person queue waiting for them. The only plus side of this is that seeing as no one squats anymore, the squat rack should be relatively free, except if you have an influx of frat boys doing frat curls.
I think the best bet is to go do some interval training and bodyweight exercises outside for a few weeks, that’s what I’m going to try and do (besides fucking off on holiday that is).

You’re life ain’t fucked yet … give it a month THEN it’ll be fucked … I’m thinking about going to lift with a doo-doo stained shirt … that’ll keep the Resolutionaries at bay
For the first time, I’m training at an LA Fitness. (before that, college gym and then private gym) so I actually look forward to seeing this phenomenon.
Maybe I’m naive, but I like when the gym is full of people training intensely, and I’d like to think that maybe some of those new people will stick around. Many of us have been that “new person” at one point.
Anyways, I get off work at 3 and train at 3:30, so I’ll probably miss most of it…

You are definitely the exception to the rule at least in these forums…it seems like most people really don’t like it when the gym is crowded (I don’t, honestly). I think it has to do with the semi-OCD nature of most of us here…we don’t like people fucking up our routines which we’ve kept religiously for so long.
At least I can take solace in the fact that I train in the mornings. I think the only thing that bothers me is my gym only has one squat rack and one power rack. I’m happy to see people use them for squatting, but they fill up quickly.
Not to mention, the influx in membership comes from people with less… musculature. Not a whole lot to look up to.
Working in a fitness facility is stressful in January, no doubt about it. My least favorite part is the members arguing with other members about who’s turn it is on the treadmill etc. fuckin eh.
cardio at 7pm? most gym goers only know the treadmill.
i honestly sympathize for most of em. before i was introduced to this website i didnt know wtf i was doing either, id run, id do just random stuff. so i cant really scoff at them for being ignorant.
which i dont really get though, cause everyone on this site seems to think its poor gym etiquette to talk to anyone or offer advice during their lifting session but at the same time they get pissed off that everyone around them isnt training for the upcoming Olympia.
atleast Wakiki has the right attitude, even though he most likely wont be mixed into most of these people. dont you guys kind of feel its your duty to educate these people? i mean you see someone 135 pounds pressing every other day my guess he didnt walk into a gym with intent of lifting to remain small, its kinda like walking into a resturaunt with the intent of leaving hungry.
sometimes it is wasted though, ive tried explaining things to certain people who act like theyre listening but then never do what i advocate. ironically the person in paticular said he wanted to look like me…yet he wont listen to me 100%…go figure.
i felt good about helping someone else though cause the plates at my gym arent round per-se they have like this indent for a handle…
anyway i showed this kid doing deadlifts that if you set the rest of the plates with the handle down theres enough room so they just slide in, that way you dont have to pick up the whole damn thing trying to slide a plate on. (i also just figured this out like 20 minutes before i showed him lol)

I am seriously fucking dreading January. At least I set up my split so that I train muscles on different days than most. For instance Monday is Legs instead of going with the National Chest Day on Monday like most.
I usually just stick to myself with my ear buds in and don’t pay attention to other people and their lifting habits/routines. However, if someone wants to ask me a question regarding anything training related I’m more than happy to give them some advice … There’s a group of kids (15 yrs old) that lift the same time i do at my gym.
I don’t initiate any conversations with them but on a few occasions the leader of the group will ask me for training advice on numerous sub-topcis (i.e. nutrition and weight progression). If someone has a legitimate question it doesn’t bother me one bit to answer it.
