It's a Snap

glad to hear both you and your coach are under the bar again.

With sumo, you had a definite lockout at the top.

I’m confused. Are your hands near legs on sumo? I thought hands were supposed to be well away from legs, hanging straight down from shoulders?

I’m confused too, Cav, about many things.

Regarding the grip. If I drop my arms straight down to the bar, I miss the knurling. My shoulders are pretty narrow. My sumo is “modified sumo,” a-la Coan.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Right now, I’m training both wide-stance sumo (the proper way) and conventional. With the weights being light, it’s the perfect opportunity to focus on form.

So I see there have been some major changes to the site. I’m always the last to know.

Yeah…major drama :frowning: Don’t leave me Snap, LOG ON :{

??

You know how to reach me, Brute, even if I weren’t here.

But I’m confused about navigation. I signed on this morning and can’t find the general training logs. Like where Dixie and all those other folks are.

You’re not the only one, I’m lost here.

Other news:

I’ve been taking my daughter to the gym with me. She’s a might bit tiny (70 lb. or so), but really enjoys doing some of the weights. Last night she did squats, RDLs, Conventional DLs, flat bench . . . with an itsy bitsy barbell. She has really good form. Of course, I critique every rep.

Also, I’m in search of a monolift in town. I want to try squatting out of one. I think one of the reasons I have a hard time with walkouts is that it’s hard to step back into such a wide stance. Or is that just an excuse?

I have found that monolifts can make a huge difference.

Aww, that’s cute. She’s taking after mummy. So do all your kids enjoy athletics?

I love to hear about girls in the gym, getting inspiration from their strong moms. In my gym, I see the father-son combo alot, but never the mother-daughter one.

snap, I had to move my hands out on sumo, because they dragged on my thighs and kept me from locking out.
Now, they end up just outside my thigh/hips which are pretty narrow.

As for weirdness, I have been thinking about logging over here or not logging at all.

Being over 35 seems equal to being a women for me in influence on my lifting attitude. Now as ouroboros said, if they came up with an over 35 PW forum, I’d be interested!

This seems like a pretty friendly and serious place.

If your hands are outside your thighs, you’re not pulling sumo! Please send me a video.

I encourage you to log wherever you’re most comfortable. I know I’ll get the scoop from you whether you log or not.

Am so. Here’s what I mean. See the way his fingers clear the sides of the thigh so they don’t rub? I’ll get a pic in the gym today if I can.

love your daughter going to the gym awesome.

interesting, I’d like to see his setup…

It’s a good group over in over 35, get a lot of good advice and/or comments from the guys and gals here.

Well now. That’s Jeff Douglas! I know him.

I thought you meant that you set up with your hands outside your thighs. I’d still like to see a video.

I think I’m subconsciously trying to kill this log. So I can come back really, really strong on my next one.

I’ll support log killing and coming back freakishly strong.

How exciting about your daughter! I’m not surprised she has really good form. The combination of being a gymnast and her mother’s daughter basically mandates it.

SNAP!!! Purple Panther is at RMLC

Thanks you again for letting me try her

LOL, I can only imagine…

It’s cool that you got her training with you and you’re obviously a good role model for her in that respect.

Just don’t do what my father did. He criticized EVERYTHING I did, to the point that I hated doing anything where he was around.

I hope you’re giving her lots of encouragement and advice.
