Thats outstanding about your coach and that your own rehab is coming along well.
Wow, that’s fantastic news about your coach. You’ve all got to be really excited about that.
james
your coach is awesome
I hated every second of any rehab
but I knew the prize at the end
Glad to see your taking good care of yourself.
the feeling that your foot is someone else’s… Did you get a lot of nerve damage?
I bloody hope i can squat like that if/when I hit 72. My own curse is my left hamstring, I bounded out of bed too quickly an hour ago and it is letting my know.
I’ve been given clearance to lift with restrictions (essentially no weight). I’ll take what I can get.
Today. Squatted. First time with rebuilt foot. I videod to check form. Looked and felt fine to me. Except maybe too deep.
Also, wide sumo DLs, seated GMs, single-leg kneeling hammies, planks. All with next to no weight.
I’m coming back with a “less is more” outlook. Serious lifting only 3x week and more diversified conditioning work.
Smart on the “less is more”. How did the foot feel?
james
Hey Snap, good to see/hear you’re back under the bar.
It’s Snapper time.
Outstanding to have you back.
Looking forward to following as you crush your PR’s.
Its great to see you back in the squat rack.
Awesome form on those squats!
I will get off my ass and prepare that 300lb program tomorrow.
Is that foot legal?
Awesome form but how did your foot feel? Are you still feeling tentative?
Foot felt great. It will be just fine. Not hard to have good form, Cav, when squatting only 50 lb.
No PRs coming anytime soon, Joe, as my surgeon wants to restrict me to 5-lb. increases per week to avoid potential stress fractures around the fusions/plate. I’m good with it. At least for awhile.
I look forward to reading about the program, DeadKong. Not that a 300-lb. bench is within my reach. But I really enjoy analyzing programming.
Snap, I never realized how wide a squat stance you have…I’m on a stance shopping spree…checking out everyone and trying them on myself. …
I see you are getting your swagger back
nice work great form.
Hey 5lbs a week is nothing to sneeze at.
Plus you can bench right?

I tend to always video from the side. So my stance usually isn’t evident. I need to go wider to combat the extra depth, I’ve decided. Unlike most folks, I suffer from hypermobility of my joints, which makes squatting difficult because I have no stretch reflex until I get very, very wide. I tend to drop to the floor if I’m too narrow. I think you could go wider, Brute. You have good hip mobility.

Well, I’m not sure you’d call what I do “benching.”
I’m working on dealing with my perfectionism. Just yesterday at physical therapy, my therapist gave me a new exercise that I struggled with a bit. I got so frustrated and said “I suck at this.” He was just incredulous with how hard I was being on myself and reminded me that I’d never done it before and had just had my foot rebuilt nine weeks ago.
I’m often the same way with powerlifting. I recognize my mediocrity and allow it to beat me down at times. Even though I’m trying my hardest. And yet, I love this sport and derive incredible joy from the pursuit of higher numbers. Just some musings.
It really is wonderful to be able to train again. Even if it’s only with a 50-lb. barbell this week.

I agree with everything you said expect the part where you say you are medicore. Thats crap.
Statistically speaking you are among the rarest of the rare.
