It's a Snap

Eeek! You’re getting close to my level!

What did your coach say about your form?

It’s all falling in to place nicely. Hitting PRs at just the right time.

I’m predicting a huge new total for you at the meet.

Great work.

Nice pull snap, congrats

O: I am not wearing my Velocity. It needed more time to break in than I had. Consequently, I’m DLing in an old squat suit. I’m getting 20 lb. at most outta this suit. My raw 225 lb. was an easier pull than my geared 248 lb.

FatlnlC: Thanks for the DL analysis. I need to learn how to pull sumo correctly. My conventional form isn’t all that hot either. I’m just a high hip puller who uses a lot of back at this point. I hope to correct that.

Cav: Sumo pulling is really not my coach’s thing. He tries to get me to start my conventional pull with my hips lower. But it doesn’t work all that well.

FB: Thanks.

Today was my last heavy squat day before the meet. I cut down on the warmups to conserve energy for the serious weight.

Squat
5/45
5/97
3/122
1/137
1/152 knee wraps
1/182 suit straps down
1/192 planned opener . . . solid
1/209 planned second attempt . . . solid
0/220 fail at planned third attempt

Got a talking to and eight minutes of rest. Then:
1/220

A little less than 2x BW, which is a lot on my little back. Lifting off and walking out that weight is harder than the squat. I swear. I’m just not sure what else to do to prepare my CNS.

Finished up with incline situps and lying hammie curls.

12 days.

great squat awesome effort on round 2 with that 220…

I see you got your mind right! Great comeback!! and a PR yes?

Bench is creeping right back up there. I’ve never taken my planned 3rd attempt prior to a comp.

Great work!

I had to laugh at the ‘talking to’. I’ve found that a sternly worded note works best for me.

What is the meet date?

Nice come back set. Looked great.

Great comeback.

solid work ms.snap

O: Meet is July 30. Right around the corner. I do well being “yelled” at in a motivating way. That and being slapped around.

Benched today. Everything felt light. Worked up to:
1/102
1/107
1/112 bodyweight

Hit them all in my loose F6 shirt. Which is amazing for me. The most I’ve ever benched in a meet is 104.5. So now I’m re-thinking my bench attempts. May open at 104.5 and work my way to 115.5. I should admit that I’m an unpredictable bencher at meets. Have gone 1 for 3 before.

Here’s the 112 lb. I’m essentially archless and am gripping quite narrow with my butt off the bench because our gym benches are very low. I don’t lift my ass when benching on the platform.

Really great work. All of your lifts are looking solid and that has to be a good mental boost for you. Best of luck at the meet, I’m sure you’ll knock it out of the park.

I always enjoy seeing your work in action. (in a non creepy way of course)

Nice work Snap. I feel your pain on the too low benches. All of them seem to be that way at commercial gyms and I feel like my legs are all over the place.

Regarding changing attempts, I’ve gone into meets opening at previous bests. It’s a mental challenge for me but turned out quite well.

Good job on the squat and bench. You came back and nailed it. Outstanding.

great work, nice way for things to come around

Nice bench Snap. Looked strong. Someone once told me it’s not necessarily the tight gear but the right gear that works. When i was in gear i sometime found that tighter wasn’t always better.

Very much agree with this. I have hit numerous PRs with a shirt I can put on like a Tshirt. Have trained with guys like Burdette (700lb single ply at 198) and he puts his shirt on by himself. Tighteness isn’t as important as being able to make it work.
