Very much agree with this. I have hit numerous PRs with a shirt I can put on like a Tshirt. Have trained with guys like Burdette (700lb single ply at 198) and he puts his shirt on by himself. Tighteness isn’t as important as being able to make it work.
So true. I have a custom shirt that is just too tight – too much – for me right now. Same with my new Velocity DL suit. I’ll break them both in eventually.
Conventional DL
5/117 double overhand
5/137 mixed grip
3/157
1/177 belt
1/207 suit bottoms
1/227 slightly more than my planned opener and a bit more than double bodyweight
Here it is:
After pulling and watching the video, I decided that my opener is too light. It didn’t even feel challenging. So I’m going to open at 231 instead. Then I’ll make the jump for a USAPL state record and meet PR on my second attempt (248 lb). Curious that I don’t like DLing. I’m always relieved when I’m done pulling
Then spent time in the cage doing squats. Nothing serious.
5/45
5/95
3/3/120
1/135

I did the mst Bp worlds a few years back and they have a crew that goes along and helps with gear etc. I was warming up and got to point to put on shirt, slipped it on almost all the was and the shirts guys looked at me like WTF…lol. But some people there spends a loooong time putting shirts on…no thanks for me.

My thighs. You had to bring 'em up. Huge for my size. First on, last off.

That did, indeed look light. I tried to find them but what are your planned DL attempts? How big jumps do you typically plan for DL?
Funny but I change how I stagger my weight increases for attempts at almost every meet. Still trying to find what works best for me. For DL, I will open at either 225.5 or 231. I want to conserve my energy for my second pull at 248. That’s what I want to hit. Then if I’m successful, I’ll take the smallest jump possible for my third attempt.

i think your thighs look wonderful.

I’m sensitive about them. I’m small everywhere but have frog-shaped legs, as PushMePullMe pointed out once when we were training. I carry all my fat there and am beefy in the thigh region even at my leanest.

one thing that i find really strange about powerlifting is how the plates are so modest. i’m used to big fat bumpers.
This is especially true at meets where the plates are heavier and thinner than gym plates. The amount on the bar always looks so unimpressive to me!
