I agree with Vicky in that the bar leaves the floor a bit more slowly with sumo. That’s why I find it ideal for geared lifting; you get the pop off the floor and a shorter lock out.
When’s the meet?
Next Saturday! I’m really only going to pull that 220.
I haven’t tried pulling sumo in gear yet. I think it may be very exciting when I do because the carryover should be greater than with conventional. I also think I will be able to eventually widen my stance since the gear will support my hips some.

I predict you’ll like it a lot. It’s also a ton easier to get down to the bar.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you at the meet. I’ve done meets before where I’ve only gone to pull.

Have you tried the smith machine for shoulder press? Seemed easy on the joints?
Never. I avoid the smith because of the fixed bar path and lack of stabilization required. I want to force my weaker shoulder to do the work. I used to squat in a smith and found that the strength carryover to free squats was nil for me since the machine did all the stabilization for me. I’m not a huge fan of the smith for much.
*Flat bench supersetted with matching sets/reps/weights of bentover barbell row
*Lying DB tricep extension
*DB incline press
*Standing lat pulldown
and
*Chins . . . 44.5 AGAIN. I failed midway through the fifth rep of the ninth set again. Argy.
I’m suffering anxiety about pulling next weekend after that 220 came up slow and with bad form. My back really hurt after that pull. Frustrating since the whole reason I changed my pulling style was to save my back. I’m worried I’ll throw my form and miss the lift at the meet.
it will come up fast! Remember its a party meet–if you can think that way. PARTY at the end!! and its your number 2 right/ if it doesn’t go up , go back and do it for your 3rd attempt.
but it will go up! you’re going for a record so it can be as dirty as you have to be.

Trust yourself. Trust your training. You will crush this.
Then played with some deficit sumo DLs just to grease the groove, so to speak.
5/115
3/165 . . . realized I was pulling in my squat shoes
1/165 barefoot
Called it a day. That’s it in terms of serious training this week. Cheers.
Ouch! That hurts just watching you squat. I’ve been trying to pause squats, but not that long, I just break the momentum a bit. That’s a lot of weight for you, isn’t it?
