It's a Snap

I agree with Vicky in that the bar leaves the floor a bit more slowly with sumo. That’s why I find it ideal for geared lifting; you get the pop off the floor and a shorter lock out.

When’s the meet?[/quote]

Next Saturday! I’m really only going to pull that 220.

I haven’t tried pulling sumo in gear yet. I think it may be very exciting when I do because the carryover should be greater than with conventional. I also think I will be able to eventually widen my stance since the gear will support my hips some.

I predict you’ll like it a lot. It’s also a ton easier to get down to the bar.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you at the meet. I’ve done meets before where I’ve only gone to pull.

i think you’ll be fine! i think you’ll end up going for more on the third…

Have you tried the smith machine for shoulder press? Seemed easy on the joints?

Never. I avoid the smith because of the fixed bar path and lack of stabilization required. I want to force my weaker shoulder to do the work. I used to squat in a smith and found that the strength carryover to free squats was nil for me since the machine did all the stabilization for me. I’m not a huge fan of the smith for much.

Upper body training yesterday.

*Flat bench supersetted with matching sets/reps/weights of bentover barbell row
*Lying DB tricep extension
*DB incline press
*Standing lat pulldown

and

*Chins . . . 44.5 AGAIN. I failed midway through the fifth rep of the ninth set again. Argy.

I’m suffering anxiety about pulling next weekend after that 220 came up slow and with bad form. My back really hurt after that pull. Frustrating since the whole reason I changed my pulling style was to save my back. I’m worried I’ll throw my form and miss the lift at the meet.

I have a feeling its going to come up fast at the meet.

it will come up fast! Remember its a party meet–if you can think that way. PARTY at the end!! and its your number 2 right/ if it doesn’t go up , go back and do it for your 3rd attempt.

but it will go up! you’re going for a record so it can be as dirty as you have to be.

Take it easy for the next week! Give you body a chance to recover and strengthen.

You already know that, but just want to remind.

yes, x2^ rest, recovery this week, some light blood flow work to keep loose.

You’ll do fine at the meet, remember to keep that back tight, big air in the belly, push against the belt and once you break the floor you’re GOLDEN!!

As always, dear Snap, you will crush it at the meet. You need to get out of your way.

Hey Snap!! Just wanted to pop in to wish you well on your meet. You will absolutely dominate! Good luck!

Thanks for all the positive words! You can never discount the power of an adrenaline rush on the platform.

Squatted today for fun. But I felt off. Struggled a bit with my setup and sitting back. Hmm.

Squat
5/45
5/75
3/95
2/115 belt
1/135
3/140 knee wraps
3/145
1/150

Pause Squats . . . fun, fun!
2/3/120

Then played with some deficit sumo DLs just to grease the groove, so to speak.
5/115
3/165 . . . realized I was pulling in my squat shoes
1/165 barefoot

Called it a day. That’s it in terms of serious training this week. Cheers.

Ouch! That hurts just watching you squat. I’ve been trying to pause squats, but not that long, I just break the momentum a bit. That’s a lot of weight for you, isn’t it?

Great work.

Thanks for posting that vid. I’m always looking for squat tips and the pause at the bottom means I don’t need to pause the vid

james

Nice squats -perfect depth, really straight bar path.

Egads, you are looking muscular.

Gosh, yea- that form on the pause was flawless.

Love when you say Its light, bet it felt a bit heavier after hovering down there.

*IF it didnt please dont tell me.
