I continue to suck. But I’m grateful that I have the opportunity to suck. It could be worse.

Sumo is so much easier to rep and hold form than conventional. I could have kept going . . .
Front Squat
5/50
5/70
2/5/90
Going to have to ditch these. My shoulder is the limiting factor; not my legs. Will go back to super wide squats. I want to squat like Lil Power.
Circuit of lat pulldown, weighted hypers, and planks.
Kids are back in school. Daughter has been moved to a more sane gymnastics program. Son started hockey tryouts and is on the ice a bunch. House is under major renovation. No kitchen at present. Life is busy.

The other day I was going to make a post about why are there so many fucking Canadians on TNation. Then I was going to then ask the same question about the damned southerners. True story

You do not suck. At least as far as lifting goes, I will not hazard a guess otherwise. You have medals and records that prove otherwise.
After World’s I’m going to make an effort to widen my squat so you input will be appreciated.

That’s great. Reps are good for you. And funny too because I’ve been thinking of trying to emulate you. I’ve been toying with the idea of trying to pull sumo in hopes that it helps my conventional along. But, sumo seems too form/ technique intensive for me, and I’m a little intimidated by it–especially with my hip issues.

It’s amazing to me how lucky I am. Blow my shoulder out and cannot OHP. But I can flat bench pain-free. Cannot front squat but can back squat pain-free. I have what I need for PLing.

I look at your avi and try to emulate that stance. I can definitely do it. Just gotta get the bar a wee bit lower on my back. That’s the challenge.

I look forward to seeing how this works for you. You have the flexibility. But the law of diminishing returns comes into play at a point.[quote]Nadia Comeandeat wrote:

You? The most incredibly strong, talented gymnast is intimidated by sumo? You would rock the form if you tried it. Tune in next week, Nadia. I’m going to try to pull 20 DL reps at 155. All because Buckeye Girl and Stronghold pissed me off some weeks back. Actually, a very motivational pissing off it was.

It’s very interesting to see what sheer bloody mindedness can do. I started with this as a kid when a boy was partnered with me in gym class and told his friends he’d easily beat me at all the events. I humiliated him at every single one. If I hadn’t over heard him saying this, I wouldn’t have been all that bothered to try hard since I wasn’t really into gym. I bet you kick 20’s ass and do more.
Had a trench dug for a propane line so that we can have a gas stove. Digger knocked down the phone line. No landline or Internet.
Upper body today: Still following bastardized Gillingham bench program. Also did DB lying Ls, bentover BB row, DB tricep kickback, standing DB rear delt, DB Cuban press. Those Cuban presses are very hard on my shoulder. So much grinding. Not sure if it’s a good idea to push through or not.

Aw you’re too sweet. But perhaps over estimate my athleticism a bit. Re the 155/ DL challenge–a little extra motivation is always a good thing, and I like you pulling for reps. It’s good for you. But, like you, I didn’t understand how the challenge was valid across weight classes. And, more importantly, I didn’t see the value in pulling that many reps in terms of making progress towards my goal of pulling 300. I don’t do cross fit for a reason. It’s stupid. But, If you’re going to do it, just don’t fucking hurt yourself. It’s not worth it.

So you’re saying I should just get over my “small girl’s complex?”
Good friend of my husband’s for some 20+ years is passing through town and staying with us for a day or two. He asked about my powerlifting and then said: “You know my cousin is a world recordholder in powerlifting.” Skeptically, I asked who it was. “Laura Phelps-Sweatt,” he responded. I never put it together. He shares her maiden name and is originally from Cincinnati. Wow.

I don’t think you have anything to get over. You compete in a sport where BW is relevant. If you’re going to do the challenge, you should do it in a way that is meaningful to you–whatever that is. Maybe that’s scaling the weight. Maybe it’s not.
Please!
I f’d up and put 315 on for 10x10 instead of 225…
No DL no squats for 2 weeks (and probably for 2 more)for me, even with the help of a good Chiro…
injuries suck!
