It's a Dog's life

What did y’all shoot?

Sounds like a good day for all!
Front 9, 57 & 58 Did I mention that we are beginners at golf too, LOL

If the thunderstorms hold off today, we’ll do another 9.

The fatigue factor these past few days even with the extra rest and additional calories told me to skip the ride today in light of the upcoming race this coming Saturday.

So I took the boy, his buddy and buddy’s dad golfing. The scores sucked but we all had a great time.

me 61
son 54 (yep he beat up on me today. at least after taking a couple of mulligans, ;-})

Wow!! Never in my life would I think a 61 sucks. Then again I play maybe twice a decade…

Good y’all had a fun time. It will help you refocus for the race.

Ummm - You do realize that is for 9 holes, right?

HAHAHA!! Nope, but then again I shoot a 61 on 9 holes of a par 3 course.

Love golf. As soon as I can get the ball through the windmill or to come off the hippos tail just right to make that left hand bumper shot I’ll love it even more.

Hahaha… I don’t play golf. I play Whackfuck.

I whack the ball… then scream $#@!..

You guys ever see the stand up comedy routine that Robin Williams does on golf? Hilarious… it’s on Youtube.

I think for lifting goals I’m going to shoot at the intermediate to advanced level listed at exrx

Which would put me:
Press 138-164lbs
Bench 201-275 lbs
Squat 269-367 lbs
Dead 315-438 lbs
Clean 194-264 lbs

So I’m almost to intermediate in squats and deads. I don’t have a clue on press, bench and cleans. They get worked after my shoulder rehab is complete.
These are all easily within your reach, and in the upper ranges, too, I agree, with the patience, hard work and ability you have already displayed. Looking forward to following you along.

OK I just registered and paid my fees for the hill climb race coming up this Saturday…

Geech - I’m right there with you about knowing next to nothing about the sport. I’m a rank beginner and have never raced before. So I’m in the beginner 45-49 group.

Well, all I can say is that if any of your competitors dare take a look at your log they will be trembling in their pedals! Have a great time!

Sick 'em Soldog! You want I should get cammed up and run some interference for ya… set a few traps perhaps? heheheh!

Ahhh hell, you won’t need my help!

Remember… pain is just a sign that you are still alive.

There is nothing like an upcoming competition to get the fires burning in you. Don’t think you’ll stay in the beginners class too long. Learn lots and have a great time. We’re all pulling for you.

Thanks for all the support guys!

Nutrition summary for May 1, 2008 to June 1, 2008 (32 days)

Fat: 120 grams/day 38.7%
Protein: 185 grams/day 26.5%
Carbs: 179 grams/day 25.6%
Alcohol: 37 grams/day 9.2% (Average approx. 2 beers/day)
Calorie: 2815 cals/day (and right around 4 pounds lost.)
I just need to replace the beer with protein to reduce the carbs and get the protein up to 1.5 grams/lb bodyweight.

Pre-race training: haven’t a clue except that I probably shouldn’t do heavy legs
Weight 183.4 lbs

Since I put cleans on my list of goals, I thought I’d better start learning how to do them. I’m also taking the opportunity to learn how to do front and back squats with my home setup.

Superset 10 reps each: Hang Cleans, Fronts, Zercher, Back Squats

45 / 65 / 95 lbs Weights were chosen to try out the hang cleans. Performed all sets with around 60 seconds rest and worked up a sweat.

Chinups: 7/7/7/6/4/3

EZ-bar curls 75 lbs 4x5 & 4

Then I took the bike out for a spin around the top of the mountain. 4.5 miles, 30 minutes, 580 feet total elevation gain.

Today’s nutrition report

Fat - 43.1% (112 grams)
Protein - 41.9% (246 grams)
Carbohydrates - 12.2% (71 grams)
Alcohol - 0.0% (0 grams)
Other - 2.8%

Daily Sodium Intake - 5,173 mg
Daily Sugar Intake - 23 grams
Daily Cholesterol Intake - 1,798 mg
Daily Saturated Fat Intake - 36 grams
Daily Fiber Intake - 18 grams

That’s better on the protein. Might have some almonds later to bump the calories to accomodate today’s workout.

They say it is best to learn cleans from the top down, so it looks like you are starting out the right way. Don’t be shy of stomping your feet when you jump. Are you following with the full squat? Good for you if so – I have not gotten past power cleans yet in that regard. I think the erx.net site gives succinct information and illustrations, but you already know about that, if you have not yet gotten the Starting Strength volume.

Thanks for the nudge and the reminder about Starting Strength. I was not doing a full front squat to complete the hang clean - will fix that tomorrow. And I had completely forgotten about the book. Exrx.net was my reference but I didn’t review the hang clean just prior to training. I did notice that as the weights went up it was easier (and more necessary) to do a little jump and squat to catch the bar.
