I genuinely feel so darn good to have that millstone off of me! I feel kind of ‘light’, as if I’d been wearing lead-lined clothing that was so heavy!
To be free, to depend on nothing other than my mind and my own judgment, to genuinely not care if my actions and thoughts match up with some fantasyland bullshit…so THIS is what it feels like to be genuinely free and live as man is supposed to live.
Where was this 30 or 40 years ago??? My last lamentation…

You’re an atheist/agno whatever?
Congrats! Welcome to rational shore!
Now, enjoy a life full of meaning and possibilities.[/quote]
He says God speaks to him, he’s not personal and an atheist.
I think you’re getting trolled.

I can hear your chains of bondage clanking in my ears from here. Just wait until you see what real freedom is.

I have no issues with God at all. But I don’t think we need ministers or bishops or priests…any of that. To borrow from Ross Perot, if God speaks to me, I’m all ears.

Just go bask in the glory of a near infinite universe and all its marvels.
I know the feeling. I remember listening to a priest talk about thought sin, and I remember thinking I was going to go to hell, I started to do bad things intentionally, and found that even though I understood I was going to hell, I still felt badly about the bad things I did.
That was a huuge wakeup for me, but the thing is I don’t think the values or the morality are bad in the slightest, what I have a problem with is the hegemony of the Church.
As someone taking a step away from religion, you will realize you still have a proclivity to do good. I found virtue theory which isn’t about following some set of rigorous rules, but exploring what it is to be an excellent person and trying to be that. Also understand (if you aren’t already married) that a lot of the time women are going to want to raise their children along with some sort of faith, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
You had to have an open mind to step away from religion, keep that open mind. Coming from a religious background myself, I get sort of offended when people bash religion on the serious, it’s one thing to joke around about it, but another thing to really bash it and go after it with irrationality.
Just don’t become an ugly Atheist (sort that call religious people stupid).

You could spend that time now learning where apostrophes go and where capital letters go, dummy.
Anyway, no one forced you to read this or comment. You chose to participate.

Good post! And nah, I wouldn’t bash anyone for their religion, mostly because I don’t care. Bashing someone means you have to care about them, and I don’t.

I actually have that portion committed to memory; wish I didn’t.
When I think of all the time I wasted reading and memorizing the NT…arghhh! I could have been reading Toynbee or Suetonius, Tacitus or Machiavelli. Mea culpa, mea culpa!!!

You, of all people, are playing the role of grammar police?
You better start by cleaning up your own act. Four question marks huh?
