ISSN Conference

I would like to know if any of the Testosterone staff or readers attended this year’s ISSN conference in New Orleans. If so, I would like to know how it went. I know one person who attended and she said it was great.

However, she did miss Lonnie Lowery speak. I would like to know if anyone saw him speak. She will be giving me details about the conference when I see her on Sunday but I would like to know everyone else’s experience as well. I am going to join ISSN as a student member.

My good friend Cass Forsythe spoke along with Lonnie; I’ll see if I can get her to chime in when she has a second.

Eric, if I recall correctly, you stated in your interview with T-Mag that you will be speaking at an ISSN meeting. Which one will you be speaking at? I will be most likely attending the next meeting in NYC and I am assuming that since you are from CT that you will be attending or speaking at this one. I would definitely like to hear a lecture from and possibly meet people such as yourself. I am a graduate student in nutrition and exercise at CW Post Campus of Long Island University, have completed a didactic program in dietetics and will be starting my dietetic internship at Stony Brook University Hospital in September. Basically, my goal is to become a sports dietitian. I love clinical dietetics but I just cannot see myself working in a hospital.

In addition, I plan on becoming a competitive powerlifter in the future. I went to my first Westside seminar in PA last month put on by Jim Wendler and Thomas Deebel, DC and I am hooked. I hope to hear from you.

Hi Eric -Hope u got the email i sent u with the mag mock up from NZ?- quick question re ways to measure response to training to get an ideal time between trainnig sessions-if i’m going for maximal strength how do i know when i am fully recoevered without hitting the weights again? any ideas?

Brad,

I’ll actually be speaking at the one down in Delaware in early August; here’s the lowdown on that:

I’m still in the Northeast for the next few years, and I’m going to be doing more speaking in the not-so-distant future if scheduling allows for it. We’ll definitely have to meet up!

The Westside guys really know their stuff and put on great seminars. Plus, they’re straight-shooters, something you don’t find very often in this industry nowadays, unfortunately. Tom’s an awesome guy (not to mention damned good at what he does, too). Glad you met up with such a good crew.

Wow. I’m not sure what to say. Here’s how it went down…

NOTE -I can not give full names in order to protect those involved. Sorry.

EC: Hey Dave, wanna go to ISSN?
DB: Sure Cressey! Sounds great!

2 days before conference…
EC: Sorry Barr, I can’t go. But I’ll be sure to post about it on T-Nation and not give any mention about your attendance. And I have a small penis.

END SCENE

Eric, thank you for your response. Without being too much of a bootlicker, I must say that I was pretty darn motivated and intrigued by your interview with T-mag. Although you are definitely way further in your career and athletic endeavor than I am and we have different areas of study, when I was reading your interview, I said to myself “this guy is doing the same things that i want to do!” It was this year, being that I will be a registered dietitian (RD) by next summer and have my master degree completed one class after that, that I said to myself I must start making moves and meeting people with the field that I want to so badly break into.

I am going to becoming more involved with the Long Island Dietetics Association this year as well.

Actually, on the Stony Brook Dietetic Internship listserv there has been a whole lot of talk about ISSN. An alumni who I have met through that listserv is possibly going to introduce to my two role models in the near future, Doug Kalman and Jose Antonio at the next conference in NYC. I am pretty excited. Mr. Kalman actually attended a dietetic internship where I am completing my masters degree. Perhaps we can meet one day too.

Yes, you are right! Jim Wendler and Tom Deebel are very good guys. Every time I order something from Jim he is very generous with his time in answering many questions I have had on powerlifting and is just a really friendly type of guy.

The Delaware symposium is at an inconvenient location and date for me actually, but that lineup looks awesome!
