Israel Invades Lebanon

Looking for two captured Israeli soldiers.

Hopefully they find them soon.

Isreal turned up the heat today.

They disabled the airport, blockaded the ports and hit over 100 targets in Lebanon today.

I think the Isreali’s are going to draw a line in the sand at this point.

This has the potential to draw more radical involvement if it continues long enough.

There is already talk of Syria and Iran in these issues. It would not be hard to imagine finding reasons to strike these countries if evidence makes itself known.

I’m conflicted.

It some ways, it seems that the peace process needs to be refreshed and this may be a good way to do it. Remind people that the alternative to peace is not simply lobbing the odd rocket into Israel as the culmination of your backyard BBQ.

At the same time, I worry that there is the possibility for things to spread and widen if anybody has such an agenda and we don’t know it.

Sorry if this is off topic, but I read that the prisoners might be transferred to Iran. Do you think Israel would start attacking targets in Iran?

I wouldn’t rule it out. Certainly the odds are in much higher now that they will do so.

Iran is denying this is the case but apparently it has been done before and Israeli intelligence is usually pretty good.

Additionally it’s reported now that “hundreds of targets” have been hit. Moving past a simple reprisal at this point. They seem to be preparing the battlefield in my opinion. Expect the troops to roll soon.

This is exactly on topic as Iran is so closely involved in supporting the militants in Lebanon.

I think Israel would not hesistate to attack Iran if they had a good target and a good mission planned.

I think the US would be handling this instead of Isreal. We don’t want them going into Iran.

Israel is now saying that they fear the soldiers are trying to be taken to Iran.

I just wished the U.S. would give Israel a week of free reign over there. The time for making nice is over. Let Israel do what we haven’t the balls to.

My worry from first hearing the story was of either Syria or Iran aiding Lebanon and sending the whole region into war.

Israel has shown they will retaliate, I don’t doubt they’d bomb Iran if given justification.

Define “we”, as I think there are many different agendas around these days.

Who would you negotiate with?

Hamas
Hezbollah
Islmaic Jihad
Syria
Iran

That’s 5 off the top of my head. Probably many more involved.

The Palestinians will never settle with Israel until they can consolidate the factions and stick to any deal they make. Land for Peace didn’t work out. Got the land…didn’t keep the peace.

We as in the World. If Isreal went into Iran, all out shit will hit the fan in the region.

I’m willing to bet that if things continue on the present path, Isreal will do what it sees as necessary and I don’t think the US is going to do a damn thing about it. If they find out Iran is harboring the terrorists responsible for abducted the soldiers and/or the soldiers themselves, I expect all hell will break loose. Isreal simply doesn’t take shit–it can’t afford to. Appearing weak just doesn’t fly in that part of the world…

That is the plan.

Oil and oil related product costs would sky rocket.

They are sky rocketing as we discuss this topic as a result of recent developments.

Did you even read my post? I didn’t mention negotiation with anyone.

Rockscar,

I’m just suggesting that I suspect some folks somewhere are just chomping at the bit for this to happen…
