My point is that I have known a few women whom I would think of as Rubenesque who were by no means huge, IMO. Some of them even had kind of a fun body shape, if a little heavier than I would usually gravitate to. None of them were obese and certainly none of them were big enough to prompt random strangers to email them about their weight.
It seems to me that a lot of people who invoke the “Rubens Defense” no longer fit into these parameters. Could be wrong, I’m hardly an art historian.

Well, there’s a theory that says that during that time period, being seen as fat was a sign of wealth and capacity to survive, and food being scarce, a fat person was deemed “rich”. Same theory mentions that social tastes and preferences can morph according to current conditions.
