Is Melatonin Safe?

I do my lifting in the evening at about 6:30 and take an E/C/A stack to transform me from Bruce Banner into the Incredible Hulk. I pop a few HydroxyCuts to wake me up. I often pay for this in return when it is time for bed. Recently I have been taking 3 mg of Melatonin to pull me into a deep sleep. And I always sleep hard with the stuff. Is it safe to take Melatonin often since it is basically a hormone? I have been useing it about 4-5 nights a week. Has anyone ever had side effects from the stuff?

Melatonin is absolutely safe (as long as you are over 25). Your body starts producing less and less of it as you age so really you are just replacing what your body should be generating. I’ve been using it for years as I’m a really light sleeper.
Why not switched to Biotest’s Power Drive if you need to get jacked for a workout? It won’t keep you so buzzed you can’t sleep.
Also, try kava kava.

valerian root works as well, but both have a ‘hangover effect’ that you need to watch for. i.e. if you take them without enough time for your body to use them you’ll feel all funky in the morning. if you don’t mind perscription drugs, ambien is excellent

Michelle, “not giving your body enough time”; does that mean one must take meletonin a certain amount of time before going to sleep? How long, and how does doasage effect it?

What she means is that if your gonna take it, make sure you take it on nights where your gonna get at least 5-8 hours sleep. Otherwise you’ll be tired all next day.

Only problem with melatonin is it down regulates, and your soon your system will need more than 3 mg.

Try Zma, or even just magnesium.

Hey COLIN. Michelle is refering to the herbs. Melatonin is a little more potent, I believe, and the first time I tried it I slept like a bear. My dreams where so vivid - I felt like I was awake going through a really messed up day - only to actually wake up! Everytime I take the stuff I remember my dreams. I am a light sleeper (ever since those lovely Anthrax shots from the Corps) and Melatonin has saved a few nights for me. If you have never tried - GO FOR IT DUDE! Take 3 mg about 30 minutes before lights out.

I am 24, so does that mean I could be messin’ with my bodies internal clock too soon? I need the rest, I am a growing boy.

I find it very hard to fall asleep when I run out after taking it regularly. As such I take it sporadically and don’t run into that problem.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will use it sparatically. The comment about not being able to sleep while not useing it was my worry.

Also, I thought Power Drive was another E/C/A stack but apon futher review (actually checking the ingredient list), it has a lot of brain juice that has worked well in the past for me. I once tried a simular product. It looks like an awesome stack! It will be on the list for my next supp run… OUT HERE.

sorry…was away for the day. grin anyway, i was referring to enough sleep time for the melatonin and/or valerian to wear off. both have a bad ‘hangover’ effect if you don’t sleep through the full doseage… so if you don’t have time for about 8 hours don’t take it. personally, if i don’t sleep long enough i am groggy and disoriented for a few hours after getting up. if i need to fall asleep quickly and only hav a short time to sleep i take a half dose of ambian. ambien is VERY addictive though, so if your doc give it to you, use it sapringly. i have never had the ‘vivid dream’ effect from melatonin or valerian root, though many people do, you’ll have to see how your body reacts… but do that on a night where you don’t have a busy day the next day!!! i have had sleep problems my entire life, and ‘discovering’ melatonin was a god send, i have not noticed any ‘tolerance’ effects from it - but that may be due to my poor sleeping habits in the first place (did that make any sense???) i have gone through streches of a month straight, 2 valerian and one melatonin every night, with no ‘withdrawl’ effects. and speaking of sleep, i was at a bodybuilding show all day (VERY cool!) and need to so get some zzzzz’s.
