Is It Possible to Eat Too Much Fruit?

I’m working towards eating a diet of as much unprocessed foods as I can. To me, unprocessed foods include anything naturally grown, raised, or foods that remain relatively unaltered from their natural state. This leaves me with fruit as the most consistent, easy, and accessible snack during the day, but I wonder if I am eating too much fruit. I don’t worry about the sugar in the fruit, I worry more about the carbs. Maybe I could be placing them better around my workouts or throughout the day.

What do you guys think about the fruit argument?

Below is my typical day in food:
Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs + 1 clementine
Snack: 1 cup berries
Snack: 3oz carrots + 2 tbs hummus
Lunch: 3oz chicken +1/2c sweet potatoe+1c broccoli
Snack: handful almonds
Snack: 1/2c edamame + 1 clementine
Dinner: varies
Snack: 1 cup berries

If you have any suggestions for natural snacks, I’d be happy to hear them too!

Ditch some of the fruit and substitute with veggies.

If you’re not overeating in terms of calories, and you’re getting plenty of protein and healthy fats, then you’re going to be perfectly fine.

The whole “sugar from fruit will make you fat” myth is complete bunk. Not only does the actual fiber content of the fruit slow the digestion of the fruit juices, but the serving size (google glycemic index vs glycemic load) has to be pretty sizable in most cases.

Particularly with what you’ve outlined, berries tend to have relatively lows amounts of carbs. I’ve had female clients eating tons of berries every day leading up to contests and they’ve all fared just fine.

You’re eating a diet that’s so perfect, trying to change bits would fall into splitting hairs IMO.

Do you want to loose weight/ unhappy with how you look? Maybe then consider a change

if youe eat a ton then yeah it can be fattening what you posted is fine

@The_Mighty_Stu That’s really interesting. Have you found that with all fruit?
Suppose I’m craving something sweet and want a snack, so I eat 3 oranges. That’s 30g of sugar. I can’t bring myself to accept those macros. Have you never really experienced adverse effects on your physique as a result of fruit consumption? (not that I have, but I’ve never been brave enough to try)

Nope. Seriously, how many people have you known who have gotten fat from eating fruit? Not that it’s a good thing to eat a ton of sugar every day, but there’s a lot more to the whole nutrition game than avoiding sugar.

Anyone who used to follow my contest blogs know how much I loved using PopTarts and even fat free pastries to make up some of my higher carb days food intake

Well, when you put it that way…

I guess I was referring more towards the idea of ‘optimized eating’ for maximum leaness (when prepping for a contest or such), but you addressed that too with mention of your pre-contest PopTart habit.

Haha, majoring in the minors, I guess.
Thanks for the response!
(time to restart my old blueberry habit)

I would be more worried about inadequate amount of protein rather than too much fruit based on the diet breakdown…
