Is Applesauce a Fruit?

My friend and I are arguing over this.

I say it surely is not.

He says it is.

The definition of “fruit”:

  1. any product of plant growth useful to humans or animals.
  2. the developed ovary of a seed plant with its contents and accessory parts, as the pea pod, nut, tomato, or pineapple.
  3. the edible part of a plant developed from a flower, with any accessory tissues, as the peach, mulberry, or banana.

The question is what percentage of fruit is it

Did you ask him if applesauce grows on trees?

Applesauce is a fruit the same way tomato sauce is a vegetable.

This thread hurts my brain. 8^{

My point exactly.

Apple sauce was fruit, much the same way my morning dump was food.

These are the most open-ended responses Ive ever heard.

So im taking it that its not?

If it just has apples it’s fruit. If it has other shit, it’s fruit and other shit.

Yes, it is fruit but it is processed fruit. It is healthier to eat the whole apple and let your body do the processing.

Technically, applesauce is just puréed apples. Processed, but still fruit. As other people said, just eat the apple. However, applesauce is good in recipes where you need to bake something and need moisture but don’t want to add bad stuff.

Are mashed potatoes still potatoes?

As long as they’re not pre-mashed, or that instant crap.

They do have a “Natural” Apple sauce now. All it contains is apples, no sugars and other preserves.

Now? You make it sound like they just invented this. what’s next, mashing peanuts into a fine spreadable paste? think of the possibilities! just need to come up with a name for it…

Agreed…

You could make your own if you like apple sauce.

Apple Sauce Recipe here:

Then you know what goes in it and also you can make it with any kind of apple you like best…

Dude! If you’re going to ask such a retarded question, you have to expect that nobody will take the thread seriously. Do you need to know because it concerns a diet you’re starting? Do you want to know if it’s a permissible serving of fruit or just another junk food? Give us something to work with!
