Is 90x9 a Lousy Straight Barbell Curl Weight?
Airtruth wrote:
Standing flat back against the wall, or one foot behind the other it’s not a bad weight. There’s just too much room to cheat even if it’s a little shoulder shrug, which can be a huge difference if 5# is a difference between a max. I’ve seen two people do 95x10 and have totally different arms. Arms seem to max out quicker.

How many sets of 95x10 can you do with 30-45 sec rest? because I’m sure Kai’s 30x10 is much more intense then your 95x9.
usually looks like 11/5/2 or something like that

lets face it, this isn’t a strength training forum, so when you have people who are brainwashed and think that deadlifting/squatting is going to build your biceps come in here and say I’m bragging (when all I was asking was if it was a good lift by bodybuilding standards)… it’s kind of annoying

so all the posters hating on bicep curls for no reason, please take your big 3(which is probably shit by powerlifting standards) back to the “beginner powerlifting” forums… thanks

Significantly less impressive. Arm size seems to be bigger for those with higher muscular endurance in reference to sets.

if someone could get 11 on all 3 sets with 95 and 20-30s rest time then they arent lifting heavy enough (it’s not their 11RM to begin with)

Then, um, drop the weight so you can get into the hypertrophy zone for your followup sets.

 1. I said 30 - 45 even up to a minute if you must 20 sec is not really recovery time. While you may not be able to get 11 you should be able to get above 5 on your second set and 2 on your last if your looking for bigger arms.

 2. Your Max is your max. If it’s your max weight or max reps. People act like if your max is 135 that your going to be able to take 140 part way up. Most of the time not the case. Same going backwards if your max is a 11 reps, you don’t have to only be able to do 2 on the 3rd set. Conditioning plays a big part. If your arms are conditioned to do 2 reps on your 3rd set with a weight you can do 10 of they’re probably not that big.

2.5) Conditioning and maxing out or testing are two different things.

2.999999999999) The body does whatever you condition it to do.

Okay, listen up.

There is no such thing as a good lift by bodybuilding standards. Guys don’t get in their posing trunks, go up on stage, and lift weights in front of the judges. They go up on stage and show off how their bodies look. It doesn’t matter what weights and reps they use as long as it makes their bodies look better. I repeat, bodybuilding is about how you look, not how much you lift.

I didn’t even see the post you’re referring to. A lot of people are turned off because of your attitude. You were banned from another site because you were a dick and you’re off to a similar start here.

You’re missing the point when people suggest squats and deadlifts when you ask for advice on arms. You’re not at the point where you should be worrying too much about curls. Sure, squats, deadlifts, pullups, dips, rows, etc. don’t stimulate the biceps like a curl does, but they do build a hell of a body. Who looks better, the guy that does all the movements like the ones I mentioned or the guy that does curls every time he goes to the gym? We have all seen THAT guy in the gym. He’s the one that makes little progress month after month, year after year.

lol “not at the point”

so after lifting for several years you magically reach a point where training all the bodyparts that aren’t big 3 becomes relevant.

also where did I say I only do bicep curls as my routine
Ummm…yes. There are so many things that go into the size of muscles other than the amount of weight they can move. Height and limb length, even a couple of inches of difference, can have an enormous affect on the amount of muscle required to move the same weight. I’m 6’4 and have almost a 7 foot wingspan, the amount of muscle I would have to have in my biceps to move the same amount as someone with a 6’4 wingspan would be significantly larger. Going even deeper, just the basic inervation of the muscle is different for everyone. Some people just naturally have more muscle fibers activated when their brain sends a signal for muscle contraction.

Short story: everyone is different

90x11 bro, and I don’t think ~16.5 is that bad for my weight considering I’ve always trained every muscle group

as for bigscary… I think 2 people on similar routines and same length limbs, if they have the same 10RM there wont be that much deviation in muscle size…

im not saying that someone who only does 70x11(like on a volume routine) won’t necessarily have ~16 inch arms, but if 2 people have the same lifts they will be around the same size…

Ive never seen a small dude benching 400 for 10 reps, or squatting 500 for 10 reps

This thread about curls is still going strong? Holy crap!
