How do we know this wasn’t part of an interagation(sp). The soldiers mugging for the camera don’t make it seem that way, but we don’t know for sure.

A few Iraqis in their birthday suits given the chance would slit anyone of our throats in a second. For the most part the Iraqi prisoners have been well kept and well fed.
These pictures will have little to no impact on how the rest of world views the US and in a week it will be all forgoten. Nearly all the countries of this world need the USA’s protection, economy, inventions and health care. A few pictures will change nothing.

Bush has to say the politically correct statement. But he’s probably laughing on the inside.

Bradtgif–your exactly right. Nobody killed and publicly mutilated these guys while using it (the killing) as a chance to throw a block party. Where was the fucking Saudi, Jordanian, Egyptian etc. outcry then? Oh the Arabs are pissed off? Put it this way… do you know the losers in High School that just got by but everyone knew they would not do much in life. Of do you remember those college drop-outs that could not hack the lit 101 work…?? well, SOME of those boys and girls enlist into the military not for a better sense of pride in the country but because they have nothing better to do… these FEW may have went thru basic, but basic does not maturity make no matter what the TV tells us on our Army of One ads… so take SOME boys and girls of 18-22 years of age that do not want to be there, have nothing better to do, Bevis and Butt-head their way thru the war… making our country look like south park.

Don’t get me wrong there is pride, loyalty and all those wonderful things that does make our MEN and WOMEN in the armed forces great… but there also the boys and girls inside Iraq that are the ones, back in high school or college, that everyone would just shake their heads at…

Everyone is so quick to invoke the image and the memory of the 9-11 disaster to justify just about anything outrageous.

I think such behavior dishonors the memory of the victims – those memories certainly justify action or steps to protect the populace but they don’t justify a “mess with us and you deserve whatever happens” mentality.

The ten-year-old mentality of might makes right is a dangerous way for a nation to conduct politics.

A nation full of belligerent uneducated people who don’t understand that they have to coexist with the rest of the world is destined to be in conflict.

second of all, the whole point is that now, by seeing those photos, 1000 more young arabs are gonna replace those couple of guys that r on the pics, and more americans will die.
there are some that say that other countries dont respect the geneva convention. this might be true, but you know what? other countries dont OCCUPY/DESTROY any country they want and then justify it by quoting civil rights and democracy. i thought the reason we took down saddam was because of what he did to his people. now we r doing the same.

By the way Restless, there are about as many Muslims in the US as there are total citizens of Portugal. How are you guys dealing with your immigrants? Any race riots lately against Africans looking for work?

I know it is tough trying this democracy thing. Once you get your first 50 years of democracy under your belt, you might even find it preferable to fascism and empire though. Now I know that pictures of criminals doing bad things of Iraqis might bring back bad memories of your 1970s concentration camps for colonials and political dissidents. But you might at least try for something lofty – and I don’t mean Tordesillas lofty but Bill of Rights lofty. Or you might just continue with the Portugese mantra of unremarkability and overt dictatorship and hope that Britain is there to bail you out in times of danger.

No. I am a relatively new poster. However, I am going to continue to post drivel in the same vein about Portugal as you do about the US. It has been established over and over again that you know as much about the USA as I do about Portugal. I am going to condescend to you continuously and sprout nonsense theories and perform bogus cultural assays just so you know what Americans feel like when they read your posts.

I am going to back it up with no facts, I am going to dodge any direct questioning, I will blatantly ignore any of Portugal’s good points while drastically exploding all of her bad ones. I will back up none of my stories with any personal experience with Portugese people. I will always ascribe the worst motives to any politician in Portugal, I will judge any moral calls by the Portugese administration as invalid because of Portugese empire, genocide, fascism until the 1970s, and resistance to cultural assimilation. I will continue to emphasize your recent history of racial intolerance, your utterly unremarkable national history, and take up US=GG’s “Tarafal” (Portugese concentration camp closed down in the 70’s) mantra at all opportunities. I will bring up Portugal’s one notable moment in history, the Treaty of Tordesillas, wherein Portugal decided to “divide up the world” with the Spanish empire, and laugh gleefully at how ludicrous it was the moment it was signed. I will scoff at any suggestion that the Portugese are enlightened in regards to Muslims, since of course Portugese only became benevolent towards their North African brothers after they had murdered most of them, driven the remainder of the infidels back over Gibraltar, and spent the ensuing several hundred years ferreting out unbelievers with hot irons, racks, whips, and other implements of the True Faith.

That being said, I will naturally belittle the suggestion that the US does not have democracy when compared to Portugal. Of course, since representative government in the United States is nearly seven times as old as it is in Portugal, maybe I should save it until you all have had a few more decades to try it on? I mean, it is your national habit to shrug the surly bonds of freedom in favor of more “organized” forms of government, so this might be a premature argument.
After all, at this point, Portugese rule of the people might turn out to be a flash-in-the-pan, or a fascist cover story.

Just think of me as an American Restless doppelganger, except I will under no circumstances hope that you die for your misguided beliefs (as you wished on another poster some months back), and except for the fact that I work out, and I won’t swear either. Restless, I have one final question for you. Don't ignore it either. If you want, you can start another thread for this question I'm going to ask. What is your opinion of the actions of the U.S military during WWII. Was the U.S "evil" in that conflict also. Was it even their business to get involved. I want your overall feeling. I expect some revisionist history from you, but I'll wait and see. I look forward to hearing your answer.

As for the topic of this thread, I can't say that I feel sorry for the Iraqi prisoners. No, they should not have been beaten, however, I'm sick of these retarded PC rules of engagement only applying to U.S forces. The soldiers responsible for the abuse should be punished. The matter should have been handled internally, without the media getting involved.

But I think that even the goofiest person can see that we knew in advance that any war or conflict in the middle-east would cost far more in terms of dollars and other resources than any appreciable benefit to be gained from our so-called “control” over the oil that is in Iraq. This was not about money. Metaphorically at least, this was about smacking women. And I can continue the analogy here: as we stay and try to sort out this mess with the beaten girl, the dirtbag’s friends start harrassing us. Am I gonna leave now, and give up on that girl?
