Ipods Are Ruining Society

Back to the original topic, I like random conversations, sometimes even in the gym, but not while I’m lifting. The gym is my home away from home. I sometimes don’t even talk to friends while I’m in the gym.
yes i agree. there’s something in just flat ignoring people without hiding behind a hat or headphones that is especially satisfying…i would go as far as to say cleansing and theraputic.

but i feel listening with shitty headphones makes more of a difference.

why worry about it?

Depends on what you listen to. If you are into top ten music, the difference will be small and acceptable. But if you listen to things like Coltrane or Stranvinsky, at any MP3 encoding rate, the difference is so big and the result so awful that I want to throw up. Even rock music sounds awful encoded in MP3, as long as you listen to it indoors (on the street the background noise masks most of the difference).
my question “why worry about it” was assuming that people were listening to this at the gym

i actually agree with using high quality equipment if you can afford it at home

but im not buying fucking mcintosh(not a typo) headphones to wear at the gym

mcintosh doesn’t make headphones.

I’ve noticed something in the last few days. My college has two gyms, in the last week, I have noticed that the gym attendants at both places are constintely listening to their Ipod or other mp3 player the whole time. I can picture some dude screaming for someone to rescue him from the bar that has fallen on his neck, while the attendant gets deep into “Dark Side of the Moon.”

Going back to the original discussion, I think that the abundance of media in our lives today is one of Satan’s greatest tools to keep us immersed in a contestant, meaningless noise. People use this noise to drown out the sound of their conscience, questions about their mortality and questions about life, origin and eternity. Basically, the voice of God.
I don’t agree with this at all. If anything, it gives me more to think about.

The days of the Pony Express and month old letters are gone. They are replaced with instant information…there is no bad part about this.

I think enough about religion and philosophy as it is. If I want my time alone in the gym listening to Metallica or 50 cent while I work out, then I deserve it.

There’s lots and lots of people who will never think about heavy subjects anyway. This has never changed, nor will it ever. Its not Satan. Its just dumb people staying dumb.
