I have an iphone 3 on its last legs. Been waiting for the new release before I upgrade. For those of you that have the 4, should I just upgrade to the 4 or is the 4s worth it since I’ll be staying an iphone user? Advice appreciated.
Although I don’t own one, I’ve used the 4 many times. iOS5 will leave out some features from the 4 down, the 4S does have some beefed up internals and a supposedly fixed antenna, so I would go for that if you’re going to upgrade and stick with Apple.
I would still advise you at least try the other 2 options out there, Android and WP7. They all have their advantages.
Son’s mother has the android and the phone’s reception is horrible and battery life terrible. The reception could be a service provider issue though. The battery life is well known.
Do you have a thumbnail pro/con for each? You seem to be up on this tech stuff. I just know the iphone is very intuitive (and I’m not an Apple guy) and I’ve been mostly happy with it. It’s my 2nd one (had the 2, now the 3).
Android is currently no where near as optimized or intuitive as the iPhone or WP7.5, but it does have the largest variety of phones available, and an endless list of features. You can customize till the cows come home, if you’re into that. I avoid it because I think the interface isn’t good at all, updates are hard to come by and it’s riddled with bugs and security flaws that keep popping up.
Apple will give you some of the best battery life you can get out of a smartphone, and its secure. It has some of the latest and greatest features coming out in iOS5, such as a BBM equivalent for iOS users. And finally it has a really good ecosystem if you’re a Mac guy. I’m not, and I cannot stand iTunes, which is part of the reason why I moved on to something else. Every update Apple released made the phone slower until it was practically unusable. I don’t see that changing either, as they only have one phone they’ll do all they can to make sure people upgrade as often as possible.
Windows Phone isn’t even a year old, but they are working up to being a good competitor with the other 2 in the long run. Don’t let the “Windows” brand fool you. The OS is the most intuitive, stable and smooth of the lot, hands down. Granted not everyone will like it, but it is unique. I like that where you’d need 10-15 apps on the other 2, it’s built in from the start. Contacts and photos are automatically stored in a Live/Hotmail account in case you lose your phone. As for cons, I’d say the app selection is still very small (30k), it’s a love/hate interface and you won’t be getting hardware as good as Android or Apple have to offer. At least not until Nokia brings out some phones.
You can’t really go wrong with any of them, it all comes down to preference.
