Tell me about the different Android O/S’s. I see that some have one versus another. What are the differences? Do they all kind of have the same user experience? Are the differences only ‘under the covers’, like something I would only notice as a software developer versus a user?
Stock Android with no ‘skins’ is on the Nexus devices, most of the others have their own mods to make it interesting to customers:
Nexus: Stock Android - most people seem to prefer this.
Samsung: Touchwiz - it’s not bad, looks like the iPhone interface for the most part.
HTC: Sense - the most popular ‘skin’ and probably the better choice of the lot.
Motorola: Motoblur - horrible in most opinions.

HTC Sense is def the pick of the bunch in my opinion. Touch wiz just isn’t designed as well as sense.
Honestly Im not a fan of the iphone at all. There are so many reasons why… I would have to start my own iphone hater thread which really is an iphone vs android thread. I have an android HTC inspire running 2.3 and it works awesome. Tmobile has the fastest 4G speeds capable at 42mgbs down but it is on its HSPA network, not LTE. 4G is defined by speed not by technology but technology is what it is being marketed as. I say anything HTC and android is good to go.

Windows Phone - Wait for the Mango release or ditch it for a Iphone 4 when the 5 comes out and drops the price?
I like my Windows phone but it is a phone that has some apps it can run. My old Iphone was a a device and voice was just part of what it did…
I’m already running Mango on my HTC Mozart, and it is awesome.
The phone is about 1.5x faster, I now have all the features you could want. The only advantage of the iPhone is apps. Those will come with time to WP7, and with Nokia planning some impressive hardware, I wouldn’t touch an iPhone.
It’s not going to cost you anything to get a free update that improves your phone tenfold, or you can get iPhone updates which cripple your phone.
Thanks for the info. My MS rep pretty much told me the same thing. Mango = What it should have been out of the box. I’ll wait for it and make a choice after I get to use it for awhile…
One thing that is a show stopper for me for Android phones vs iPhones is whether or not it has gyroscope ability – rotate action, flip (like a coin), etc.
From my perspective with some software designs I need that functionality from the phone. I did some quick searches but EVO and another one (I forget) were the only results.
^^obvious choice… move up to the 5 when it comes out. the difference between the 3G and the 4 was incredible. 5 can only be better than 4 (if only slightly)

I’m worried my head might explode.
I’ve kinda gotten used to my apps taking 10+ seconds to open and not being able to use my maps or GPS.

Yeah, it’s what made me ditch the iPhone altogether, it was taking 5-10 seconds to open up my messages.
You see that Apple’s strategy is to slow their older phones down with their updates, so people have to keep upgrading. It’s ok for someone on a 12 month contract, but after 24 months it’s just cruel. WP7 is the only platform I’ve used where updates speed up your phone, and no phone is getting left behind.
Saying that, the iPhone 5 is being announced on Tuesday, but I have a feeling it’s going to be based on the iPad 2, both with the internals and the design (aluminium unibody, or something similar). Simply put, it should be pretty epic design wise.

HAHAHA yup. I like the pager comment. And sometimes I will absolutely NEED my maps at work and they will fail, miserably. Thank goodness im gonna win the FF league that can pay for my new phone!!!
Buy a 5 and sell me your 4! I have a a Win phone and I am waiting for Mango. If this release is not what everyone is saying it is I will be going back to the Iphone. I was very disappointed with the original release of the Win phone. No extra ring tones, can’t even buy them. Apps are slow or non-existent. Hell my bank won’t even release one…
ATT has the release and Iheard they were deploying it now. I can’t wait!

You should be able to at least force the update now (even if your carrier still hasn’t released), it’s already rolling out.
It might take a few tries to get right, but most people report that it works.
