IPhone 4/5 (and Other Mobile/Tablet Discussion)

DO you use the default email (for work email) app or a different one?

I think BB’s email blows droid’s email out of the water. I need to see my sent emails, and for the email’s to stay in the fucking inbox even after I turn on my outlook.

The problems with Android is you need a high end nexus model to get updates a lot of the time, since every manufacturer has their own skin, so they control the updates.

While the software offers a hell of a lot, the whole OS and usability experience is far from what you get on an iPhone, for example. Maybe the Ice-cream Sandwich update will address a lot of this, but that’s speculation.

You pretty much need a high end model for a ‘smooth’ experience.
I was going to hold out for the new Iphone, but after playing around with it i got the HTC sensation. I have to say that it’s great, aside from the stock battery, which is woefully inadequate. I will be looking to buy a mugen one soon.
In my opinion a lot of the overlays for android are rubbish, and that was the main reason why I did not go for the samsung galaxy 2. HTC sense is the only overlay for android that I feel enhances the use-ability of android.
Also the fact that many of the apps are free on android but paid for on IOS also swayed me. Having played around with IOS a bit, I fell that having a phone that is so un-customisable would piss me off in the long run, whereas I can change a lot more on my android, and play around with different widgets on my home screens etc.
I can’t comment on windows phones as the last one I had was about 4 years ago and was absolutely horrible. I gather that they have come on a lot since then, but what is that app situation like on that platform?
I just got the sensation a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I haven’t really had a problem with the battery dying on me. Maybe I don’t use as many features as you. I must say the camera is pretty kick ass.

FYI, if you’re using standard Outlook, it will download all your emails and since nothing is left on the server, your phone will remove it too.

Solution is to use an IMAP connection on Outlook and your Phone, which means it only downloads a copy of the email and leaves the original on the mail server.

Is your sensation the 4g version? I’m in the UK so mines 3g. Maybe there may be a slight difference in the batteries each phone ships with?

to add to this question…

stay at 3G or move to 5 at release? lol.
You definitely need to change from 3G!

Wear a seat belt when operating the 5, the speed of the web browsing relative to 3G is likely to give whiplash  haha
hahahhaha yeah i know. i was gonna upgrade to the 4 then i didnt, and now its too late. ill either get a 5 or look into that windows phone but ill probably just get a 5 due to not wanting to learn a new phone.

Something that is relatively likely to show up is LTE indeed:

I call shenanigans AT&T doesn’t even have LTE enabled towers yet, in fact their LTE phones are still running UMTS/HSPA which they call “4g”

Hmmm, they had a photo up earlier but I don’t know much about the US carriers and what they offer.

Yeah they really only have a 3g footprint right now, at&t and t-mobile both claim 4g yet neither has deployed their LTE network to their customers yet. I still say iphone 6 is when apple will have an LTE phone. With how apple loves to make stuff so small can you imagine thew battery life on an lte iphone? Ugh
“Hello” shit dead battery

Yes it is 4G. I’m use to having my old mytouch which used up the battery so much. This phone surprisingly much better at keeping a fuller battery.

Let’s open this up.

“Best In Breed” – Best Android Phone? Why you like it over the others?

Also, I’m hearing more and more about Windows phone.

Like I said earlier, I have the HTC Sensation and I think it is pretty awesome. This is only my second smartphone so I don’t have experience using others. I’ve messed around on the iPhone before and it’s pretty cool. I like the sleekness of my phone and the large screen.

Galaxy S2 is the best Android phone.

Now that HP has shut down it’s WebOS products, it’s going to get interesting out there.

^yeah this one looks to be the best phone out right now, waiting for the US release…

I loooove my Samsung Droid Charge! It’s 4G, faster than shit, the OS is intuitive and user-friendly as hell, and unbelievably customizable (got the LauncherPro app, which lets you customize right down to the transition effect when scrolling between homescreens), the screen quality/clarity/brightness is even better than an iPhone’s, the screen is bigger than an iPhone’s, got the SwiftKey keyboard app which is unbelievably intuitive and fast to type on, the 8MP camera takes better photos than my 8.1MP Sony point-and-shoot camera, Internet speeds are lightning-fast, it’s great-looking . . . Need I go on?

Windows Phone - Wait for the Mango release or ditch it for a Iphone 4 when the 5 comes out and drops the price?

I like my Windows phone but it is a phone that has some apps it can run. My old Iphone was a a device and voice was just part of what it did…

Tell me about the different Android O/S’s. I see that some have one versus another. What are the differences? Do they all kind of have the same user experience? Are the differences only ‘under the covers’, like something I would only notice as a software developer versus a user?

I’m already running Mango on my HTC Mozart, and it is awesome.

The phone is about 1.5x faster, I now have all the features you could want. The only advantage of the iPhone is apps. Those will come with time to WP7, and with Nokia planning some impressive hardware, I wouldn’t touch an iPhone.

It’s not going to cost you anything to get a free update that improves your phone tenfold, or you can get iPhone updates which cripple your phone.

Stock Android with no ‘skins’ is on the Nexus devices, most of the others have their own mods to make it interesting to customers:

Nexus: Stock Android - most people seem to prefer this.
Samsung: Touchwiz - it’s not bad, looks like the iPhone interface for the most part.
HTC: Sense - the most popular ‘skin’ and probably the better choice of the lot.
Motorola: Motoblur - horrible in most opinions.
