Introduction and a Request for Advice on How to Be Big

I guess my experience is with the fed that does either under 231 or above. It seems many of those 231 guys cut to get there, and are typically around 5’8"-6’0". I don’t actually know any guys that compete in feds that have more granularity in their weight classes. I do know women who compete in the feds with more classes.

I have seen your picture. You are lean. That type of body is going to be hard to achieve naturally. Are any of the feds tested?

The guy I was mentioning is Matt Molnar (probably misspelled the last name). I was thinking that was the look most of the 5’9" strongman competitors were going for (which is not possible at 175).

NAS back when it was NAS used to do that, but introduced lightweights in the lates 2000s or so. Called it “Strongman Fitness” at first. Now they are strongman Corp, and always have lightweights. 200lb class is hit or miss.

there are no tested feds in strongman currently.

5’9 is honestly a little problematic for the 230 (middleweight) class. A little taller is better for sure. For the reasons I listed above. When you get to that class, stones get very heavy, and platforms tend to get higher. To me, 6’0-6’3 is right where you want to be for middleweight. When you get to the heavyweight range, 6’3+ is ideal. There are ALWAYS outliers. Without question. That’s just what I consider to be ideal for those classes.

Are you saying that there isn’t a fed anymore that just does above and below 231?

I only know a bit about strongman. I love watching it, but am not as well versed in the finer points (like what fed allows tacky on farmers grip).

I currently do powerlifting, but do some strongman implements. I prefer log over a barbell for pressing. I do farmers walks, yolk, tire flips, and log as I just mentioned.

Would like to eventually do an event. Sounds fun.

Not in the states. At least not any that have a pro-card.

Interesting. Learned something new today.

It is worth noting that, as far as I am aware, the only PRO shows are above or below 231, so that could be the x-factor. Still no lightweight pros.

Okay, that makes sense. The way Matt was saying it sounded very much like he either had to be under 231 or whatever he wanted to weigh above 231. He has his pro card, so I am assuming he is mostly doing pro shows.

Yeah, the only amateur shows he can do are as a heavyweight.
