Who is trolling Stu? Everyone who has posted anything in humor so far would readily admit that he is one of the most - if not THE most - respected member on this forum.
But, that doesn’t mean he behind a velvet rope on a pedestal with a “Do Not Touch” sign separating him from those of us walking around the T-Nation HoF. He’s a part of the community here. And sometimes we like to joke around in the GET A LIFE section.
Everything said so far has been in good humor, and with the understanding that he is an adult man who can both recognize and take a joke when they are delivered without the intent to insult him.
Obviously, no one thinks that that exchange makes him an asshole or whatever. That’s why the jokes about him being a dick ARE – because he is obviously one of the nicest guys you’ll find here.
If this site really is “going downhill”, people with no critical thinking skills and an inability to read between the lines – like you – are the reason, not innocent humor.
I keep coming in to threads, reading a little ways, formulating a response, and then continuing to read on to see that anonym has already posted my reply…

The WORST thing about this shit, is that the ‘gym instructors’ will only ever ask people to put plates away or not drop weights, if they see someone deadlifting like ‘deiselweasel’ (haha - who remembers that guy?) they’ll just walk past…
Probably because the “gym instructors” don’t know any better…
true, I’ve never seen one deadlift, or squat any deeper than several inches above parallel.
how or why would one deadlift to parallel?
and LOL at the Stu meme pics

I have a friend like this. Average in every way. 5’9" a buck-75, squats 135 and deadlifts 185 every. single. time he goes to the gym, then does a couple of dips and a few pullups and goes and watches 20 minutes of whatever shitfest is on at the Cardio Cinema. Usually shows up 45 minutes late, looking washed up from the night before.
He says he’s primarily a soccer player and thus only comes to the gym to “complement” it. Funny, I don’t think CARLES fucking PUYOL treats his gym sessions like that.

He told me he could leg press 10 plates (ON EACH SIDE) so we did a leg press session (I never do this, I only squat and lunge) and I saw the shortest ROM of I’ve ever seen in my life. I think his feet moved about 5 inches.
I don’t mind it personally but I’ve stopped training with him. I can’t deal with the stagnation, willingness to settle for being one of those guys who trains 3x a week but nobody can tell either in the power rack or at the beach.

Shit like that pisses me off the most. I want people to do what you did and give me advice. I hate having to ask people for it; i feel like im annoying them (which i probably am)

x2 nothing but respect for Stu just goofing around a little in the off topic forum. Fyi i would consider it a blessing having Stu training in the same gym as me.
Well I usually can read between the lines easily. But despite being 20 and well versed in “the internets” its still sometimes hard to tell. I don’t have anything bad to say about it if Stu takes it in good humour and you guys are messing around. As you were sir.
I only meant too many threads run way off course, but accusing me of being the reason if any is pretty internets of you. I have no arguement though, I do find most threads amusing as I said, just making sure Stu knows its in humour and isn’t drove away like nearly every other respected poster tends to be lol.
Considering Stu wrote this, I for one didn’t think any part of his post was being arrogant or out of line.
Just trying to give some insight along with what PX said. Human nature is when we are confronted with “being wrong”, then we get defensive.
For example, this is a huge mistake a lot of trainers make (myself included).
client: I want to lose weight… and drink several sodas a day…
trainer: that’s not good, you should cut that completely
client: insert some excuse here why they should keep drinking it
all because we essentially said what they were doing was wrong, even though they already know it, they will comee up with excuses on why to keep the bad habit.

…and it isn’t just them. We see it right on this site. You correct some newb who was eating brussel sprouts and lettuce to get huge and he turns around and acts like you are trying to turn him into some bed ridden mass over 500lbs.
You tell some poster that fat cells don’t just increase in number that easily all because you ate an extra sandwich and they act like everything you say is nonsense or “illogical”.
It just isn’t fair to only accuse the one lifter who doesn’t want your advice of that.

X, your agenda is thinly-veiled at best. You’re clearly in bed with the cheezburger industry. Let the healthy children eat their extremely nutrient-dense iceberg lettuce.

Look, I have had no relations with the burgers. Further, we need to define what the meaning of the word “is” is.
I’d just like to add that this isn’t limited to the weight room. Lots of kids these days don’t want help.
Recently I was in class and overheard a group asking some kid about a homework assignment. One of the guys in the group has a huge ego and thinks he’s extremely smart (He could be, I don’t know but he flaunts about it).
Anyway, while they were discussing I noticed they were approaching the homework wrong and not considering other effects in the problem. I spoke up and let them know how I did the assignment and offered help. This kid got very defensive very fast and I simply told him to go ahead and do it his way then. He failed the assignment while I received full credit. Moral of the story… It’s best not to offer advice if not asked for it.
I understand that people get defensive but I do not understand why that has to be the response. If someone offers me advice I listen and say “thank you”. If it seems worth trying, I will. If not, I will not. No reason to be rude or get defensive.
That said, I try not to just give advice. The best advice I got on this topic was to give advice under the heading, “what works for me…”
