I hope Rampage gets the help he needs. I really think UFC should give him the rest of the year off to get his mind right.

Rampage needs to start believing in himself. The guy could pretty much dominate his weight class if he really wanted to. He has always been his own worst enemy. I hope he gets is head right.
Great article, mad props to Josh Gross.

Excellent post, and I agree completely. You have to think, that after 8 some years of this, at this point it’s doubtful he’ll ever be fully screwed together to where he has supreme confidence in his skills and ability. He’s not a young fighter, and is probably in his physical prime right now (you can’t know this for sure, obviously, just guess). If he gets its all together, it has to be now. If not, come November, Wandy is going to nuke him for the third time.
rampage could have a break in reality, thus
scizophrenia. more than often have their 1st
one in their twenties. as for the other trying times in his life had it a little
rough. hope he makes a full recovery and fight again.
Cool article alright but, it doesnt make for a very happy read. Page is a great fighter, and a seems like a good guy too. Totally agree that if his head was in a better place there would be few people who could touch him.
Jesus, what about all the fasting in the run up to the Silva fight? Insane. That is a hard fight to watch. Theres a point where Silva looks to the ref, sorta saying “are you going to stop this? I dont want to kill this guy”
Man, i had no idea that Rampage had a history of psychological problems. He really comes across as a good guy, in anything I’ve seen him in, not just TUF, but interviews as well. I hope everything turns out ok for him

Wow…this is shocking. Who would have ever believed that a guy nicknamed “Rampage”, who howls like a wolf after a win…And only makes complete sense occasionally would ever lose his grip…I guess you just never know. [/quote]
Right, this is in no way shocking. It’s not shocking because Rampage is the ONLY combat athlete who seems a little off. [/sarcasm] Do you realize that your above statement could just as easily be applied to Chuck Lidell? His scream after a win may differ SLIGHTLY from howling like a wolf, but the fact is that very few elite athletes -ESPECIALLY fighters - are poster-children for what most people would consider “normal.” That said, this is the weirdest situation that i can remember involving a pro athlete with genuine mental problems since Dimitrius Underwood attempted suicide.
There is nothing normal about people who chose to live in that type of lifestyle, getting the shit beat out of the, risking their health and life, and for little money compared to other professional sports. Some guys are just more normal than others, Rampage just isn’t one of them. Watch the Smashing Machine to get a good glimpse into what the sport can do to an intelligent, educated and generally nice guy.
Sounds like he has schizophrenia. I hope he gets treatment.
He has retarded strength.

no he can not dominate in the 205lbs division, the deepest and most complete division in the UFC.

Smashing Machine was the movie that really opened my eyes to the underworld of MMA. You can’t help but feel bad for Kerr, who as Donut said, was (and likely still is) an intelligent and well-educated (Syracuse, I think?) guy who got caught up in trying to be “the guy” of the sport.

I’ll have to check that out. Yeah pretty sad to see the guy fall apart so quickly after this loss to Forrest. Maybe he can get some help through meds as well as counseling and get right in his mind so we can see him continue to fight.
Or maybe not, this might be the beginning of the end unfortunately.

And strong retardation by the looks of it… I can understand how fighting for a living could get to someone though and I’m not sure if I’d react any better.
Plus, study after study shows that getting hit in the head leads to depression. So you take guys who are already screwed up, and make them worse.

I agree with you to a point. You could easily replace Rampage with Lidell or many others. But then there is a contingent of guys who, while incredible mma fighters, seem rather normal. Hughes, GSP, Franklin and many others.
And I hope no one mistook my sarcasm for anything other than what it was. My heart goes out to Jackson it must be hell for him and his family going through this. Hopefully with some time and a lot of help he’ll fully recover.

I remember reading an interview with Franklin where he was detailing his belief in “young Earth creationism”. Getting hit in the head a lot is not good for you.
