Inspirational Deadlift Take III

Okay, I’m 56 years old, 212.6 pound body weight today, deadlifting 575 x 1, 95.8% of my goal of 600 before I die. For some reason, I bark at lockout. “ARF.” Whatever…

Dude it looks like your sandbagging!
You had another 2 in you at least! I say you’re good for 605 right now!

Great job man

Nice! almost there…

That “twitch” (just a word, not being descriptive of your technique) right before you pull -are you tightening your lats there, and is that your equivalent to what so many lifters describe as “pulling the slack out of the bar”?

Another question: what’s the scoop on a regular bar vs. a deadlift bar? please expound.

Thanks! I know, the rep felt like it took forever and then I saw the video and I’m like “grrrrr, I should have gone for 600.”

Well, in 2 weeks.

Thanks!

I set my lats like that because I grip right hand first then left and that’s what I do to square up. (Now I’m going to obsess, not really.) I use my lats to keep the bar in.

My bar is some low end, softly knurled thing with knurling in the middle, which I like for squatting. Doesn’t bend toooooooooo much. So, shallow knurl, not a lot of bend, that lift is all me baby. I don’t think I spent $250 on it, maybe less.

Deadlift bars have no center knurl and have crazy deep knurling, low side legal diameter, bend a bunch IMO.

Some people feel that they pull a ton more with one. Maybe. I suppose it depends on style. I think they bend more so that for some they are already on the way up before you feel all the weight. Seems gimicky to me.

First contest within which I used a deadlift bar, I felt like I didn’t even need to wrap my fingers around it it was so stick-to-my-hand, the knurling like a trillion little daggers.

My bar is good enough for me, I don’t want to spend any more money. One of my first bars had no knurling at all and I bent it pulling 500.

In that case, I’m giving you an “InterwebZ 600” right there!

Yeah, I asked because your weights/bar look like the kind of setup where it feels a lot heavier than it is! Kinda like when you use the fancy dumbbells at a nice gym vs. the older kind with the plates slapped on, then welded in that have come all loose and stuff…

Boom, done! Perfect, thanks. (That was easy…)

Very impressive lift! I’m closing in on 600 myself, I want 620 for my meet in June. I hit 585 last deadlift session and like you, it went up quick. Probably could have had 600 but that’s how it goes…

I’ll be going for 600 this Saturday, will take vid.

Outstanding! Okay, maybe we can get something going here.

And, thanks.

Nice, you pulled that easy.

Thanks.

Why do they always seem like near-death pulls to me? Then I see the video, and yes, I am a pussy sand bagger…

Next time I guess.

Yeah I’m sure it took everything out of you but you definitely have 600
