Insomnia, Headaches, Advice Please

Hey all,

This is actually in regards to my girlfriend. Lately, she has not been able to get more than 3 hours of sleep each night, staying up until the wee hours of 5a.m. and getting up at 8. Also, recurring headaches are plagueing her throughout the day. My take on this is overtraining…jitters, insomnia, headaches. What leads me to believe this is that she took 5 days off from lifting two weeks ago and the first two or three days she still had problems sleeping, but the latter half she slept like a baby. I am going to attempt to convince her to take off at least a week of training followed by light lifting for two weeks. Does anyone have a differing opinion?

I had problems sleeping this past year. Between work, school, and lifting I would find myself lying in bed with my mind thinking about a million different things and unable to go to sleep. Some simple things that may help are:
  1. No caffeine, or fat/loss stimulant supps. 6 hours before sleep.

  2. No foods real high in sugar or fat 4 hours before sleep.

  3. A hot shower prior to bed.

The above helped me to some extent but I was not really able to cure my problem until I tried a few supplements. Bio Scientific Available makes a product called 4-Sleep. It aids in sleep as well as night time weightloss. This product works well but is only good to use if you can get a full eight hours of sleep. If not you will feel groggy.

Another product that I found useful was called Solar Water. I can’t recall the company that makes it but it also worked well. The biggest difference between the two products is that you don’t have to dedicate a full eight hours of sleep to this product. Many times I would only get 5 hours of sleep but would wake up feeling like a champ. This product cost a little more than 4-sleep. Both are over the counter supplements and can be found at most supplement retailers or health food stores.

There are also some night time protein powders out now that have many of the same ingredients in them as the previous mentioned supps. Hope this helps.

Has she tried taking ZMA? I’ve found that 2 capsules give me the best, most rested sleep I can ever remember. Another plus is the wonderful dreams that I have. Very vivid and very exciting…if you know what I mean!

I appreciate the responses, and i’ll recommend your remedies, but I think she would like to able to fall asleep normally without the aid of supplements. Hot showers here we come!

If I really can’t fall asleep, I use 1-2 servings of Nyquil (or generic equivalent). It will knock you out.
