You’re gonna kill the meet man and blow your expectations out of the water! For the deads something that might help is leveraging yourself backwards. Think of it as you should be so tight and far back that if you were to let go of the bar, you would fall backwards.

Thanks bud. I knew about that approach, but I haven’t really atively applied it.

Deads
240x3
305x3
415x1 fixed my technique
455x1 almost puked on this one; should’ve eaten earlier
495x1 found my opener and didn’t puke
all beltless
I was going to squat but didn’t want to puke so I did rack deads instead for a confidence booster
Rack deads (I had only done these once before and that was just to try them out)
a little above the knee; just used chalk
405x1
495x1
545x1
585x1
635x1 I wanted to do more, but the gym was closing
Talk about a confidence boost! These were very easy and I’ve never felt 600 with a barbell before.

Nice work. Above knee rack pulls are great, and that’s some hefty weight for no straps! I have no idea what I could/couldn’t do with mixed grip instead of straps but for now I’ve been going double overhand with them (and with that thought, straps + mixed grip = even stronger?)

Consider me jelly of your strength. Good stuff man.

Not really. The purpose of the mixed grip is to sort of cradle the weight and “teeter” it into a more secure grip since each hand leads the bar in a different direction. Straps make this unnecessary as they create a better hook than your hands do. Sorry if that was a little hard to follow, I couldn’t think of a better way to explain it. The only time I could picture someone using a mixed grip with straps is if that person trained A LOT with a mixed grip and felt uncomfortable in their setup without it.

I used to have a lot of grip problems before I first used chalk. Once I started using the chalk and there was less slippage, my grip started getting stronger because I able to hold onto heavier things for longer periods of time which also taught me really squeeze the bar. So much so that I haven’t even used any chalk since early summer with the exception of today.

I just realized I’ve doing deads in my shoes on because the gym doesn’t allow barefoot lifting, so now I’m thinking how much more I would pull without shoes considering the progrss I made since school started.

Oh yeah and PB I used your tip. I’ve used it before marginally with lighter weights but I was always worried it make my heavier lifts so I always degraded back to whatever I would usually do. The pull today was very smooth and pretty easy and took care of my setup issue save for the near puking.

Great stuff man. You’re strength is motivating! Glad I could help you out a bit!

great, another youngin more than ten years younger than me that can put up gaudy numbers.

that definitely lights the ol fire under my ass.

I’ll go through your log when I get the chance, seems to be lots of sick lifts in here, hopefully with videos.

and you’re 17… smh…

I’m 18 now. I have a few vids in my hub but they are a tad outdated. If any of my friends show, there will definitely be a vid of next week’s meet.

Today my plan is to do some speed bench, experiment with wider grips, and find my opener. Following that I will do some floor press and weighted dips and then some back work.

Aargh so many typos in here

ANYONE READING FROM THIS POINT ON REMEMBER I’M 18 NOW AND NO LONGER 17. Thank you.

I didn’t go yesterday lol. I’m debating whether to go today or tomorrow.

Happy Belated Birthday, LOL!

Strong stuff man, you’re going to impress the hell outta yourself at your meet.

Gua-ran-teed.

thanks for reading the large print lol

EIGHTEEN. Noted.
Happy Late Birthday.

I understand your aversion to puking at the gym… I’ve only done it once… still, COURAGE WOLF has some words to share with you on this topic.

Thanx … Wolfie’s got a point. I need to start winning! I’ve got absolutely zero qualms about puking at the meet. I just didn’t want anyone to have to clean up my mess.
