I’ve been working out now for a whopping 4 weeks and I feel great! I can even SEE a change if I squint my eyes and think positive. The only downside I’ve noticed so far is the increase in my need to pee. For the first time since I was a kid I’m waking up in the early morning about 3:30-4:00 a.m. having to empty my bladder. What’s more is that I have to go at least once every 1.5 hrs during the day.
Granted, I’m drinking more water than I used to and I’ve switched to eating 6 times (at least) a day with a marked increase in protein, but this is kinda crazy! I did a search here on T-Nation and found one thread that addressed this issue: http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=137214
I’m getting most of my nutrients from real food but I have added at least one protein shake a day and put protein powder on my cereal. Otherwise, except for an occasional Spike I’m not taking any supplements.
I actually find it pretty amazing the difference in how drinking effects different people’s urination frequence.
Like feed me a beer or a coffee and it goes straight through. But then other people I know seem to go forever before they need to relieve themselves. I don’t know if that’s because they’re in a chornic state of dehydration or if they just have giant bladders or what.
All I know is I have to pee when I’m nervous and that is about the most annoying thing in the world. It’s bad enough to be nervous, but to combine it with thinking, “Where’s the nearest bathroom around here?” is irritating.

Exactly how much water are you drinking in one day?
If its around a gallon or more, your body’s response to increase urination is totally normal.[/quote]
I don’t think I’m drinking any more than a gallon of water a day, but it’s close.
Oddly enough, a few years back I had kidney stones and I was drinking much more than a gallon of water a day, but even after I had passed the stones I wasn’t peeing as much as I am now. It’s not painful at all, just annoying.
Pissing and shitting I can deal with. It’s the constant protein-creatine farts that want to come out while I’m at work, or in bed with my gf, that are a problem!

I hear ya.
Dunno, but lots of protein also causes constipation for me.
On the peeing front: Yep, my urination frequency is high. I drink 3-4 litres of water a day (not counting the green teas) and I probably visit the toilet every 1.5-2 hours.
However, on leg day, things get worse. I work out in the early morning, around 7:30; anyway, in the 2 hours following my workout I’ll pee at least 3 times, and lots of it, and it’s not as if I drink much water in the gym. Does this happen to anybody else? It just on leg days too.
On the crapping front: No details, but massive eating = massive crapping. I don’t believe John Berardi mentions this in his articles, does he!?

No what’s nasty is the carb farts, that’s why farts stink is the carbs because the bacteria in your intestines eat the carbs making gas. Which once you let one go, it might not be loud but it sure will cause an emergency gas leak evacuation.

Th increased urination is not the most annoying this about bodybuilding. I find the increased crapping is.
If you are eating 6 times a day you should be crapping many times a day too. I visit the seat 3-5 times a day.
Before I started to eat good six times a day I was only evacuating one time a day in the AM…in 2 waves.
I eat 5 solid meals a day and only evacuate once (sometimes once every two days)…
… is this a bad thing?
From what I’ve read and heard, you should go at least once a day, ~3 times a day ideally. If you don’t go at least once a day, your constipated. I used to have really bad bowel problems (I’d not evacuate for up to a week at a time). Trust me, I would much rather go 3-5 times a day than once a week (I actually re-call going longer than that once or twice). You feel like absolute crap and get headaches if you do any little bit of manual labor. That’s how I was anyway. My 2 cents.
