Incorporating Strongman Training into my Lifting?

Sorry if something like this has been asked before, but I figure I’d hear from the experts.

I lift 3 days a week following Pavel’s 3-5 workout from “Beyond Bodybuilding”, Fullbody Mon, Wed, Fri. I wanna do some strongman stuff for fun, and am thinking about making Saturday my “strongman” do for stuff like farmers walks, tosses, and pushing a car (the best I can do with what I got so far). Is there any guidelines I should follow, or is this just a dumb idea and I should stick with Pavel or stick with a strongman training routine?

Any/all advice is greatly appreciated

Mix it up or save it for Saturday. Whatever you choose is fine. You can do one or two after your regular workouts as well.

I save my Strongman stuff for Saturday for my clients. We do about two hours of Farmers, tire flip, sled drags, keg carry etc., throws, Atlas Stone loading, sandbags etc.

I just pick one randomly in my workouts and do whatever comes to mind. I am working with fullbody workouts leading up to my Highland Games this summer.

Most outstanding advice dude, much thanks.

the only thing i would say is lay off trap/ core/ lower back word on the friday workout, or it will hinder your performance.

more things you can do it

sled pulls- get a wheel barrow take off the wheels there are wholes in front all ready put some rope thru them. use sand bags as weight

like you say farmers, tosses, car pushes and pulls.

you can do keg bear hug walks as well i take it your tossing a keg.

That plan would work well as I compete in strongman and gym lift three days a week and do events one day a week.
The most important thing to do is keep your back day(deads, gm’s, etc.) at least three days away from your event training. Strongman incorporates an enormous amount of back in most of its movements.

I typically do my back work on Mon. and events on Fri.

Also, I would do heavy event work one week and then lighten things up the next week and work on speed and longer distances.

If you’re just doing it for fun, I would say justy go out and try different things and just focus on getting in a good workout. If you’re not planning to compete don’t worry about percents or sets or reps and just do what you feel like doing.

You can also look up Joe Defranco’s Westside for Skinny Bastards 2, as he talks about incorporating a strongman day in with his athlete’s training. Good luck and have fun!
