Only issue I had with TDK was the entire sequence beginning with the “bullet fingerprints” and ending with the attempted assassination on the Mayor. Hey, the mayor is a target for The Joker, let’s have him out in the open where it’s nearly impossible to provide adequate cover! I know it’s little shit, but when everything else is nearly perfect this stood out to me.
It’s been awhile since i’ve seen the movie, but if I recall I thought the Mayor purposely did that march downtown to show that he wasn’t afraid of the threat of the Joker.
The thing is, the mayor didn’t strike me to be as daring as Harvey Dent or Lieutenant Gordon. He saw the writing on the wall after Harvey prosecuted all those gangsters, and warned Harvey accordingly. I think he’d be too cautious to go out in public after that threat, especially after the murders of Commissioner Loeb and Judge Surrillo.
Now if there was a short scene where the mayor nervously donned some body armor while receiving instruction on what to look for while giving his speech, I would’ve bought that.
in order to keep the runtime the same, they could’ve cut out the whole ballistic/fingerprint BS (which is beyond a stretch) and Bruce finding the honor guard in the apartment.

Ya there were aspects of the movie that maybe were a bit more farfetched, but what movie this long, with this great of a plot and this great of acting is absolute perfection? No movies are perfect, but the acting, plot, action, drama of this movie with a great script and directing, not to mention the costume and makeup more than compensated for it and The Dark Knight is still a cut above 99% of the movies out there. But ya I do agree, the march was a bit farfetched, and I think they should’ve had a mini riot on the boat in the end of the movie, when they were deciding which boat to blow up.
It looks like a good Date Movie. I’m looking foward to some good mind f*ck movies. Makes the summer go smoothly. Then after we watch that I will take her to see this:
The Dark Knight is one of the 10 best movies of all time, so let’s cut it a little slack. Also, the op said he can’t take DiCaprio seriously. That makes no sense to me. He’s [to me] at least one of the best actors of my generation, if not the best. Every movie I’ve seen him in has been good to phenomenal, and his presence enhanced the movie. Alos, Roybot: That break down was fantastic.

DiCaprio has indeed proven himself to be a wonderful actor. Any of the Scorsese movies (including Shutter Island; I don’t know how a human would find true fault with his acting there, considering the range of emotions he went through) immediately proves this point. He was initially thought of as a pretty face by pop culture and he acted his way out of that trap without starting a boxing career or ending up in a 13 year old girl’s bed. He will probably only get better.

When I was younger I purposefully avoided DiCaprio movies. Not because of him really, just 'cause I didn’t think they’d be the kinda movie I’d be interested in. Then I remebered I liked “The Basketball Diaries”, and saw something else with him and thought “man, this dude can act.” I’m sure he’s been in shitty movies, but when looking back at every movie I’ve seen him in I’ve both really enjoyed his performance and the movie as a whole. Just recently watched “The Beach” for the first time and it was the same thing.

Drew, it’s a well done movie. I don’t believe Robert Downey Jr is a billionaire playboy who made a one-man army suit and fights crime in it, but I liked Iron Man.
DiCaprio got the pretty boy rap from Titanic and Titanic only. He had some stellar performances before then (BB Diaries, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape). He’s actually been on record as saying he regretted doing Titanic because it was hard for him to be taken seriously after that.
When it comes to acting he’s got the goods and he’s always had the goods. It didn’t take me until The Departed to figure that out.
My feelings on Titanic aside, I’m happy DiCaprio was in it because it likely provided a fairly significant boost to his career, and he may not have had all of the roles he’s had since had not appeared in Titanic. Actually, I feel the same way about Kate Winslet. They’re both terrific actors, but they just had the misfortune of being caught by the reaction many people had to Titanic.

I actually think it hurt his career. From Titanic in 1997 to Gangs of New York in 2002 he was only in 4 movies, all pretty mediocre (The Man in the Iron Mask, The Beach, Don’s Plum, Celebrity).
It took Gangs and Catch Me If You Can to bring his career back and get him on track to being considered a serious actor again.

now you’re just being stupid.
