Improving T-Nation

I liked and now miss those articles called
" things we like". A review of good things in the fitness, electronic, lifestyle, etc. are always welcomed - things T-men like. Please make this a monthly(?) regular.

I know there is a reader review section now and this is a great idea but it so limited.

WTF?
I guess T-men have no ideas, need no debate, and should only talk about lifting weights and drinking Grow! shakes.

Geez - If you don’t like politics, stay out of the freakin’ Politics forum.

Bandwidth my ass.

Remember, if you don’t like a certain section of T-Nation, you can toggle it off using the Customize button at the top of the page. Don’t like Politics? Turn off that section. Same with Steroids, Powerful images etc.

  1. No matter how much you think you know, how fast you can search for info on Google, and how well you can use the thesauras, YOU WILL NEVER CHANGE ANYONE’S MIND.

  2. No one gives a shit what you think about politics.

  3. This is a website dedicated to building a better body.

  4. There are plenty of other chat rooms and forums where people would love to hear what you have to say.

  5. Cyberspace is limited and expensive - the more you waste on your pointless arguments the more cyberspace is needed to run this website.

I like to think that this website has evolved into building a better man. I don’t see anything wrong with open forum discussion that includes politics. If the guys at T-Nat had a problem with bandwith, they would have handled it accordingly. Also, if you have a problem with the political forum, don’t go. As I see it, while I may not be a contributor to the politcal forum, it seems to be one of the more popular forum subjects here on t-nat.

more articles from christian,

videos fo excercises

I’d like to see the different coaches run a series of sport-specific programs. For example, Thib’s sport would be olympic weightlifting, so he’d write a sport-specific program on that (if he hasn’t already), coach Sommer’s thing is gymnastics, so I’d like to see a gymnastics-specific program.
Personally, what interests me most is a martial arts-specific program (I know there’s quite a few martial artists here).
I wonder if that would be a good idea - everyone writing about their sport of expertise.

I second the video idea. I know I have mentioned this before, but I really think it is a great idea.

I thought Charles Staley’s “Snatch…” article with the video clips was awesome. But I still think there are many other articles that could definitely use videos to describe something. This would be especially helpful in articles that reference lesser known movements, such as the “Exercises You’ve Never Tried…” series.

Another possibilty would be to just have a video exercise index that has small clips for any movement that anyone could be looking for.

Video killed the radio star,
Toddy

I.

Exercise index, t-mag style.

Example:

Deadlift:

(1) Video clip
(2) Sequence of photos
(3) Top 10 pointers
(4) Discussion forum for readers to exchange thoughts.
(5) Listing of main articles that deal with deadlift (Dead Zone, etc.)
(6) Listing of secondary/related articles.
(7) Pointer to external resources - order Ian King video, Dave Tate seminar, Christian Thibaudeau book, etc.

II.

“Reader Mail” is not inferior. It has benefits (1) Hand selected questions (2) Guaranteed responses from the staff. With a forum posting you don’t necessarily know if the thread is going to “go anywhere”. A hypothetical hybrid approach could be something like this: Any user can start a thread / post a question, but only “staff” members can post a response. The question stays “pending” until there is an "official response.

III.

Search and search results.

First, this site is fantastic and keeps on getting better. I do want more articles from Dave Tate and Joe DeFranco. I understand this may not be easy, but it would be nice. I love the articles geared towards improving athleticism, developing speed, and getting stronger, so more of these articles would be cool.

Um…Now maybe I’m taking an unpopular view here (won’t be the first time). However, when someone gives you something for free, it might be a good idea to say thank you, buy the company’s products which support the site and keep it free, and move on.

I agree with this, ZEB, but often times a company’s better ideas and products come from consumer ideas and wants. I am sure that most of the T-nation admin are dedicated to continuous improvement, and if we can help them with that, then I think they will appreciate it, provided that the suggestions aren’t petty or foolish.

With regard to the “No Politics” issue, come on. If you don’t have a Politics forum then people are going to talk politics on the bodybuilding forum, and I’m sure that isn’t what you want. I personally don’t read the politics forum if I can help it, because I’d rather that someone’s political views don’t taint my opinion of their training and nutrition advice.

RIT Jared

agreed Zeb.

I honestly dont see how to improve this site, it has everything, news, commentary, articles, public forum, great products at great prices.

Hell, they even give shit away with t-jack, poster of the week, and beat our caption contests.

Reader Mail? whats the point? maybe in the print mag it would work.

If you want to laugh at dumbass comments just read through the forum.

Here’s a thought, as an addition to poster of the week, do a dumbass post of the week…

Winner gets an empty bottle of Surge with something stinky out of TC’s gym bag in it.

John K- ideas 1 and 2 = brilliant. I simply don’t trust personal trainers at my gym (or in general lol) to show me good form for a deadlift etc.

This site exists for the purpose of selling supplements. Give people this free website full of information, and they might just buy some supplements while being here.

This is not in any way trying to put down this site. Exactly the opposite. A great marketing idea, and what they give away in the form of information, T-jack, and their free giveaways is phenomenal.

I don’t know about anybody else, but this is my homepage. When I get online, I immediately come here.

I support the website, and think they have the best supplements out there, and only wish I had the funds to stay fully stocked on everything. (And had the funds to buy a case of Legacy, oh well.)

That being said, they can still improve the site. I see them constantly attempting to improve it, and when we speak up, I believe it helps them. The better the site, the more people who will come here, and stay here. And consequently the more people who are willing to buy their supplements.

So I do not believe we are complaining, or looking a gift horse in the mouth. I believe that coming up with these ideas benefits everybody. And with all the minds here working together, this site can keep evolving into something even better, and in directions nobody ever thought it would.

If our ideas suck, they won’t be adopted. The ones in charge here know best what will work.

I was never a person who believed in “if it ain’t broke, don?t fix it.”

Instead I am one who believes in the Japanese term kaizen. The word translates into continuous improvement, and to me that describes exactly what this site is about.
