x 2, and I actually went back on the glucosmine/chondritin about a month ago, between that, and other recovery methods like ice and lots of high rep band pressdowns they day or two after lifting, my elbows are virtually pain free now.
Thanks for the info guys, Ill get in on that Glucosemine this week, although I have some of it that is supposedly made for dogs…hmmm maybe Ill pop a couple of those in the meantime.
WEEK 7 DAY 1 5X5
The end of last week and now the beginning of this week I am starting to miss the required reps, I was aware that this might happen, as such I will continue to do the required reps with the 5 reps as the goal, shoot for stars land on the moon, right? Even with me missing reps I am still pretty pleased with my progress thus far.
ORANGE BAND PULLAPARTS - 4X10
SQUAT - 165/5 205/5 245/5 285/5 325/4 (dumped bar last rep, didnt keep my upperback tight enough)
FLAT BENCH - 160/5 195/5 235/5 275/5 315/4 (Had nothing left after 4) 245/10
CGBP - 255/5 225/10 185/12
A1) BB R0W (SUPINATED) - 1135/5 165/5 195/5 230/5 260/5*
A2) WEIGHTED PUSHUP - 0/15 45/15 90/10,10
DB ROW - 80/15 100/10
WEIGHTED NG CHINS - 0/10 25/5 45/4 (just ran out of gas)
I find it comical that at the gym when I say that I squat, bench and row three times a week people look at me like I have 3 heads. They truly think that the only way to skin a cat is with a BB split…its ironic that the basic template I am following is nothing new and as basic as it gets yet when I tell my gym rat acquaintances they think its out of left field. Im starting to get annoyed at my gym again, for the past few months Ive been too talky, its time for me to STFU and revert back to my old ornary self (at the gym that is).
sorry to hear you are getting annoyed at your gym again…
i’m in a similar position with getting annoyed at mine, too.
i told them my usual ‘program’ was to snatch to max, clean to max, jerk to max daily and squat three times per week and they looked at me like i had three heads.
maybe they will be happier now i’ve replaced that with squatting to max daily (then backoff 2x2 lolz).
aargh gyms.
at least your angry face is actually intimidating…
I feel your pain Alex…I think I am finally getting to the point where the commercial gym may be something I should remove myself from. I would always be of the opinion that I didnt need the atmosphere, as long as the weights were their I could make due and do my thing. I think I may finally be getting the idea of atmosphere in the gym…yesterday annoyed me to no end…only problem is, is there isnt any PL gyms or “hardcore” gyms in my area.
I take some stuff called ‘Move Free,’ with MSM.
I notice the relief in the ‘loading phase,’ but it doesn’t get better or worse after. Its kind of whatever and just MORE pills I have to take.
But at least this stuff has extra VITd3 in it, which i need! I asked my Ortho guy about it and he wasn’t for or against it.
So with this program have you gained strength? Any improvements in Body comp?? Yesterday was my first ‘stronglift day,’ and with cardio and lifting I was done in an hour.
might have to add a ‘curl,’ day ![]()
You’re doing really well. I think I went for 12 weeks when I did this but I was also a new lifter so I had plenty of gains to make. You’re pretty advanced and went for 7 weeks without stalling. That’s awesome. Have you had a deload at all yet? You could reset your weights back two or more weeks and take another running start at this.
I think the point is to go as far as you can until you stall then run back at it again. Do that a couple of times then move onto a more periodized version. Have you read this? This has both the linear progression and the periodized version (they call it the Starr/Pendlay 5*5). If nothing else it’s a pretty motivational read.
It sucks being in an environment that annoys you. I’ve found that my gym goes in waves. There’s times where I’m just really frustrated then I end up meeting some really cool and strong people and thing seem rosy again. Rinse and repeat. If you’re getting the results that you’re looking for then that’s the most important thing. I don’t think that most people understand wanting to get better at the lifts themselves because typically people train in order to look better whereas we train to get stronger and more technically proficient at the lifts.
All you can do in that case is to keep hitting it. When you’re repping with 405 then they won’t say anything to you. Being talky is a bit tougher to solve because you probably don’t want to come across as a total dick. But you could simply put your headphones on and wear a hoodie. You might look a bit goofy but performance trumps looking goofy.
Sorry for the tome.
james
7 weeks of hitting all prescribed reps is solid ass work
nice job.
seems anything other then 3x10 or a BB split is blasphemy
my gym is a big ghetto commercial gym
with a few exceptions from the 3x10 bench curl tricep pushdown
1/4 squatters
Fisher mentioned MSM to me a year or so ago- I use it allot
either that or the one Pete Mentioned
tumeric or cumicurin works great on inflammation too I need to pick some up
our Dog is dependent on glucosamine- she is 16

UGH! I’m sorry. I’d tell you to come to my gym, but I’m still working with octagonal plates and they suck donkey you-know-what.
And I keep meaning to go to check out the south brooklyn weightlifting club, but the hours are so stupid and useless. They only have an open weight room from 5-7p M,W,F and then they have their PLing team M and W from 7 to 9.
I also called the xfit place on 26th to see if they have any open gym hours and they do, but you have to be an xfit member. UGH! I just want to use round fucking plates to DL, is that too much to ask?!
Have you ever been to Steel Gym on 23rd? Been thinking about visiting that place…no platform, but they say they have bumper plates?
Keep plugging along, Matty! Missed reps or no, workout looks killer!
Matty, get some headphones, an Ipod shuffle, and 150 Metal songs. Don’t take it off till your out the door.
I know what you mean about annoying gym environments. With only one exception, every gym I’ve ever attended had people who were stronger than me, bigger, more muscular, and so on. You can’t let it get to you. You just have to try and use it as inspiration.
Step 1: get a hot but dedicated lifting partner.
Step 2: Enjoy the test boost from said partner,
Step 3: Enjoy watching partner outlift the guys who annoy you.
Step 4: Profit.

Screw all that.
go in nothing but banana hammock, nobody will approach you for sure.
MiM - Thats the second time someone has mentioned MSM Im going to have to check it out. I absolutely have gained strength on Madcow, I have a +25 PR on my squat and will test everything after the cycle is over. I guarantee I have gotten stronger because Im now doing 5 rep sets of weight that I didn’t think I could do. For example I’m a crap squatter but I hit 325/4 yesterday something that I normally wouldn’t attempt. As far as Body comp, I don’t know, Im using Madcow as a strength program first and hypertrophy second.
James - Good stuff! Ill only go through a 9 week cycle and then a deload wherein I test my maxes, so a deload in about3 weeks. I could definitely use it. I will reasses after that and see if I want to re-do Madcow, though I am getting more and more intrigued with Paul Carter’s Strong 15, it really looks like a great program and I am a fan of his. Waves is the perfect term for describing the gym enviornment for me as well, I started talking with people because they were generally cool people and actually enjoyed the convo at times. Now however some of the same people are so stuck in their ways and refuse to let go of BS ideals that I find their rigidity annoying. Your last sentence sums it up in a nutshell, my training has different goals then their for the most part superficial ones.
Masch - Well at the very least I dont have octoganal plates. Have you tried the the gym at the old hangar? I heard its really really good. I may join a shit gym that is closer to me, its old and grimy, not in a good way but they have some equipment that my current gym doesent and DBs up to 150lbs. Would you update your log already lol!
Cav - Some of the most annoying aspects of my gym are the guys who think they are doing it right yet inside I am laughing. Maybe its a bit elitist as by no means am an expert but the ignorance is amazing.
Hara - I deserve some of the blame because I get diareah of the mouth and created what I am now kinda regretting.
Joe - Sounds like a great idea, but the girls are mostly asshats their as well.
Ddot - how about a beret and fake mustache?
DJ - Im just going to wear ace bandages on my knees and a cup on my mouth.
^ oh so a normal Saturday night outfit, well I guess.
