I'm a Loner Dottie...a Rebel.

Thanks Pete, I guess Im using the wrong terminology. I was setting the bar on the 2nd hole from the bottom with hooks? Should I have just set the barbell on the floor?

after watching this video I may have too narrow of a grip as well

When working up over 60% of max on floor presses always use a lift off. I don’t like setting in the hooks andd taking off myself. That is how you mess up shoulders.

Hence another reason why westside alone is a tougher than with a group lol…

Thats no lie…

I would set it at whatever hole that allows you to unrack it without pulling yourself out of position. That obviously will vary from person to person and rack to rack. I used to love floor presses, used to do them primarily on assistance day with occassional ME. The rack at my commercial gym doesn’t let me do them, the last hole I can set the hooks at are to high for me when I am set up. Will have to try a max at the BB club one of these weekends though…

So what exactly are floor presses supposed to do that regular presses can’t?

strong pressing Matty. You’re gonna smoke 365 at the meet for sure! Did you get your singlet yet?

Thanks Pete, Once I am done with this cycle I believe Im going to move it to a DE day and use it as an assistance lift it hits my tris pretty good. I just ordered a 2board and will start to use that as a ME lift from now on. It will be easier to get a spot with a 2-board rather than a floor press.

I would still keep it in as an ME lift. Main reason I haven’t is because most of my training partners are too stiff and ugly to get down to the floor, so we tend to pick board variations. I am committed to making some do floor presses with me now.

And wait, you ORDERED a two board? I know you are a New Yorker and all, but don’t you have access to a piece of lumber, a saw, and some screws or nails???

Cav - The floor press helps the midpoint of your bench as well as the lockout portion, as when you lower the bar your elbows will hit the floor it kind of mimicking the middle portion of the bench. I have noticed that I have decent power on the bottom of the bench but certainly have a sticking point in the mid portion.

A few years ago I had to guide Roger from AF on how to start a grill over the phone… you guys are useless when it comes to some of this shit I swear. Does Home Depot not exist out there?

Seriously? I love Home Depot/Menards etc.

I have a 24inch 6 inch wide base board and have velcro on both side of 4 other boards to go from a 1 board to a 5 board. The additional boards are 12x6 boards.

^ My arms are so short and I am so barrel chested I can do floor presses and the bar touches my chest. FML

^^^^^Derek, that is not necessarily a bad thing.

No Home Depot? Good lord I love that place. It sure as hell beats paying some numbskull to fix my drywall, plumbing, floor, etc. Big believe in DIY.
