My girlfriend is doing it for 10 weeks and she’s gone from 147 to 125 while gaining strength and muscle. I’m jealous because her results are so much better than mine. Maybe it works better on girls.

What exactly is she doing? Number of meals, frequency, frequency of training etc.?

I would think it would work on them, as long as they do it properly.
Be careful though, I have noticed that some females like the idea of starving themselves to became a “skinny bitch”. Reminds me of those famine fundraisers in high school, where people would donate to charity if you went on a 2 day famine. Only the girls bothered to take part.

She is following leangains: 8 hour feeding window, 3 meals. Exercise in the gym 3 days a week, and light cardio (walking) on 3 other days of the week. Higher carb/lower fat on workout days, lower carb/higher fat on rest days.

I don’t see any reason why it woudn’t work for women. Martin does recommend a 10 hour eating / 14 hour fast for women vs the 16/8 for men. That can easily be accomplished by just having like a small protein/fat shake earlier in the morning, and the rest the same.

I have heard that you have to keep the fasting length shorter. From what I have seen women shouldnt fast longer than 10 because they start to get super bitchy. Also around the beginning of their cycle, depending on hormones and history of pms they have to alter the fast.

Thankfully my girlfriend hasn’t had a problem with that
@theBird, my girlfriend did have the problem you mentioned. Once she got used to the fasts and started getting good results, she started undereating to keep them going strong. She was doing 20hr fasting, ala Warrior diet, and eating <1k calories a day, by the time I caught on. All of the sudden she couldn’t get through a workout without heavy fatigue/feebleness. I worked with her to correct the problem and restored the 16hr window (as opposed to 14).

If you read Martins site, he recommends a 14/10 for women instead of a 16/8. Seems that it’s his experience with female clients that they do better on a shorter fast.

There is also apparently a facebook group specifically for the women who do leangains. She could join up there for advice from other women.
