As far as massaging MUSCLE with ice I couldnt find anything. But in terms of joint injury there are a lot of sites that recommend it like the one above but dont get into the why.
Ice has alwasy been recommended to me for tendonitis by Orhtopedic Docs and physcial therapists. The explination they gave was that the initial inflamation does contribute to healing but if you dont give the joint time to heal the inflamation can become chronic and that is the problem ice addresses.
Regulary icing my elbows after working out helped the tendonitis to heal. So it seems common practice to use ice for injuries but for muscular recovery I cant find anything. If someone finds something please post it.
