It was always tanking with any semblance of squat work beforehand, so I stopped doing it and switched to conventional. I decided to try doing it hours after squatting like in a meet, but at that point not training it probably had something to do with it not going too well. I’ll just go conventional at the meet; I’d rather break into some new territory than leave much up to speculation this close out.

Went to a different gym to lift with the people I’m doing the meet with. These bars feel like they belong in an action figure set. It took some effort to accustom myself to them.

These were interesting. Getting used to these bars, I took my stance wide enough for the plates to make toe contact. Had to fall back and regroup…took a narrower stance, which I guess is closer to the stance I actually pull with. Got through them after that, and they started to feel better than when I started. Still nowhere near as snappy as they once were. Nothing I can do but keep working though.

Last of training leading up to the meet. Just wanted to hit some easy lifts and get done. This was done while not sleeping for 16 hours, but also with a big caloric surplus, so I figured it a tossup. Squats felt a bit too slow for my liking, but it could very well be in my head. It is what it is. Come at me, May 24th.

May 24, 2014 - Kumite Classic

Put myself through a really brutal water cut because I thought I was too heavy. The scale was ten lbs conservative so it didn’t even matter. Weighed in 187, and factoring in the five lb reduction for my shorts and t-shirt, I was technically one lb away from the 181s. There are no feels.

Slept like two hours the night before. Gave up on natty status at 4 AM and downed some doxy and melatonin.

Went to the meet, stuff happened, then I got to lift.

4/6. Some technicality error associated with the 2nd attempt. Apparently my spotter grabbed the bar a moment before the rack command was given. Don’t care. Took 140 kg and crushed it. Had 315 in me, no sweat.

Warmups were a complete mess because I warmed up way too early and had to do it again…repeat of what happened last meet. Singles doubles, triples with some different weights. Whatever.

7/9. Didn’t move like 600 did at the last meet; this one was actually a ballbuster. But now it’s my ballbuster. Apparently someone decided to give me one red because they didn’t like the fact that the weight was loud when I dropped it even though it stayed in my hands the whole time. Srs.

Lifted from like 11 AM to 8 PM. Took first place in something. Don’t care enough to remember what it was, specifically. Had a blast though.
