I Increase Calories, I Lose Weight

hm I’ve been following 5/3/1 making gains so that’s goood. Im 5’9" 160 lbs eating 3000 cals. As a FFB I’ve been battling to have a healthy relationship with food. I’ve made a lot of head way andI’m just about there (not afraid to at least try some of the cookies my mom just made instead of lying and saying I’m a bit gluten sensitive).

So anyway, startng from 2200 at 170 I decided I’d like to see what my calorie threshold was until I started gaining weight. So for 2-4 weeks I’d up cals 250. Everytime I did I lost 1about 2-3 lbs. Now my lifts aren’t hurting and I feel good I’m nothorribly noticeably leaner so I’d assume from my appearence Im at ~9-10% since abs are visible.

I know nothing to complain about but it makes me wonder have I upregulated my thyroid? Am I like Dave Tate and have hyperthyroidism somehow? Should I start eating like Joel Marion and pack on the layers of muscle? Or use this opportuninty to cut?

Something else I’d like to mention is…I’d like to weight as much as I look. I inquire others as to how much they think I weight and I get answers ranging from 180-200. Honestly, what meat-heads, gym-rats, or weekend warriors aren’t a bit self-conscious? So yea I’m self conscious that I weigh 20 lbs less than I look.

Now I’m also not gonna get sloppy with my diet for I enjoy eating clean ~95% of the time. And I also believe that I should stick with this wait for a while until it becomes my new “set point” for my body. Thank you one, none, or all who throw in their respective opinions. I’m looking forward to what anyone has to think

If you goal is to weigh more, then eat more.

It’s entirely possible that upping the calories a bit would make one lose some weight, (the reasons why are very numerous), but it won’t happen forever. There will be a point where you will start to gain.

Find that number and start gaining.

Yea thank you. It’s just discouraging after being, yes, afraid to get fat again to up my cals at all finding out that I could’ve been eating so much more. So alas, I’ll be bumping to 3500 stay there for a few weeks and asses

I’ve been there too man. The last 2-3wks of my mass phase I tried to gain a few more lbs (any kind of weight) to get over 222lbs, but I actually dropped to 218. I added about 500-700 calories in those last few weeks. I’ve always been a skinny kid so I guess my metabolism kicked up a bunch.

As long as you are looking/feeling good and your lifts are shit, don’t sweat it.
