I Have Nothing to Declare but My Genius

Hey Joe,

Real looonngg pauses, you won’t have to pause that long in the meet. Are you used to getting lift off’s? I think one of my teammates is going to Arab, do you want to see if he would lift off to you? He’s recovering from a pec injury so I’d have to ask first.

My hubby is a EMPE cirriculum writer @ Gunter.

I will pre-warn you that sumo can be really hard on the knees. Mine give me more grief from pulling sumo than I ever got from squatting. That’s why I’m giving them a bit a rest at the moment. I often look at deadlift videos for inspiration. For me it’s PRiscilla Ribic. Too bad I’m built nothing like her.

If you want to see a good sumo dl video, one was posted recently in Steely’s log. It wasn’t Steely although he is a rock star. I’m not sure who it was but the lift was beautiful and I’ve watched it repeatedly.

I can’t wait to see how you do at the meet. I’m really excited for you. You’ll have a blast.

Thanks Julie I’ll check out that DL. I’ve heard Sumo can be hard on the knees but my conventional is terrible so I need to try something.

Squats are coming along nicely Joe. Stop being so hard on yourself. If you pause the vid at 37 seconds you can see that your 250 is “below” parallel.

Good job.

Good squatting and benching! I’m really looking forward to hearing about your meet. And, of course, seeing the singlet in action.

Yep. The singlet in action. Must see.

Find the joy, Joe. I was reminded of that recently. We can all get a little too intense and hard on ourselves at times.

bench looked easy and squats are coming along nicely

I just love all the windows in your gym - but I might have said that like 100 times already. lol

sorry if you’ve mentioned this before but I know the colorado group is competing the 5th, I’m the 12 and you are competing when?

The Colorado group is competing on March 12th.

lol - I mixed up our dates. I’m the 5th, you guys’s are the 12th of course.
Somedays I wonder how I manage to not loose my head.

That was to be my comment. Looked just right to me, too.

Wise Snapper is wise.

Nice benching and squatting Joe! Is there no lady in these forums you can’t dip? HA!

I’m actually going to try to dip a person but I need to find someone between 115-150lbs, fairly short but strong enough to hold on to my shoulders while I do the dip.

Squats and bench looking good. And one good thing about a meet, too much adrenalin to do much thinking, so the deadlifts will probably go pretty good too. Good luck this weekend.

deads come last so factor that into your thinking, always make that first attempt something you could do hungover with no sleep without puking.

ok - maybe not that tough - you can puke.

Looking forward to reading the meet report - just remember to have some fun!

Thanks guys, the whole thing is starting to become real if that makes any sense.

I’d rather be in Arab this Saturday than outside in Chattanooga. Meets just a real easy workout. Trust your training, learn, and enjoy.
Saw lil power’s comments. I went to the Senior NCO Academy at Gunter/Maxwell Annex back in 1990. As a graduation present I made E9 and went straight to Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

255 went up nice and smooth. You’ll do good, I wager.
