Hurricane Frances is Pissing Me Off!

Man, if you’ve been watching the weather channel or CNN, you’ve heard about Hurricane Frances and its slow trek through Florida.

This thing is taking its sweet-ass time to get out of here. All the while, it’s dumping rain all over the places and winds in the 60-70mph range for us, and I’m located in the most NE section of the hurricane (Gainesville). Most of the city is without power, but luckily, I’ve had power the whole time, which is ironic since our power goes out every time there is a thunderstorm. So I’m happy about that.

But this thing is going so slow, that it seems like it’ll never be gone. The town shut down on Friday, and everything has been closed as of Saturday night with a curfew and now a mandatory curfew tonight.

Two people have died b/c of the storm (in our area, ironically), even though we are not near the eye or the worse weather.

It’s crazy and driving me crazy being couped up in the apartment. Luckily, with the home gym, I’ve been able to work out, so here I am at 10:30pm knocking out extra sets of squats for fun to pass some time before bed and while waiting for this storm to leave the area, which won’t be until tomorrow afternoon!

So for all those in Florida, good luck. Stay safe, and try to have some fun in the rain. It’s been great taking the dog out every time the wind and rain calms down slightly! LOL!

But for those without power, I know how it can be. We can’t use the water now because of the excessive flooding. Aye. Good thing we bought plenty of bottled water. But this storm is really messing up the whole state.

Had to vent. Good luck to all! We’re hanging in there.

What up Nate! I’m in Tally, at work at the hospital, man, and it looks like I’ll be pulling a 24+hr shift tonight and tomorrow. I know what you mean, dude, I’m going nuts just thinking about being stuck at work for that long. This sucks big time, but at least I’m making money, huh?

At least you’re home instead of being stuck somewhere else overnight b/c of flooding! This happened to me a few years ago when TS Allison came through Houston and dumped 2ft of rain over few days. We including the weathermen thought that TS was gone for good that night when I went out to a bar with a friend. What do we know? The TS doubled back to houston that night and dumped a shitload of rain again flooding EVERYWHERE. I couldn’t get home from the bar so i found a commerical garage which is like half mile away and parked on the 2nd floor and slept in my car overnight! It was the worst flooding ever in houston, never been this widesread flooding like that before!

Hey guys I’m stuck at home in Orlando as well. I got out of work because of the storm on friday night and that was ok because I had already worked two extra shifts durning the week. However, tomorrow I will end up working on a holiday because of this gay slow as hell storm.
I am very thankful though that this storm turned out the way it did. It is much better to be trapped inside because of rain from this wus of a storm instead of being crushed or blown off the face of the earth by the catagory 5 storm it was supposed to be.
So good luck to everyone else that has to deal with this super slow storm.
DA

I am in Florida too and waiting to get back to college which is closed because of the storm…God I wanna get back to school. I am cooped up in the house with a bad respiratory infection, fever, and ear infection. I have been in bed for weeks (sunpoisoning before) and I am sick of being sick. WAAAAAH
alright, I will quit my whining. Luckily I am safe and alive and my family is all fine.

I feel all of your pain. Stuck in Orlando here. The whole area made this huge ordeal, closing everything down for so long, making curfews, and then the storm takes it’s sweet ass time coming through. Thankfully the storm barely hit my area at all and didnt lose power. The worst part of it was just going insane from being stuck inside for so long. Good luck to everybody else who has to deal with this storm, and hopefully the now Category 4 Ivan won’t cause too much trouble soon.

Glad to see I’m not the only one that’s making it alive through the hurricane. I’m grateful that my family and I are all OK, although, we might kill each other if I have to stay trapped in this house any longer.

Anyways, I know what you guys mean about everyone in the state making such a huge deal about this hurricane, when, at least where I live, it really wasn’t as bad as we thought. We had more damage in my neighborhood with Charlie.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone got any crazy stories about people preparing for this hurricane?

My wife works at Wal-Mart and said that there were a bunch of fights over food and water and stuff like that. There were two guys beating the shit out of each other over a gallon of water!!!

A friend of mine works at Publix and said that they had like 8 fender benders in the parking lot in a single day because everyone is cutting everyone else off and trying to steal parking spaces.

And this one takes the cake! My wife and I went bowling on Friday out on I-drive. We were just so sick of all the drama involved with the hurricane. So we’re coming back early in the afternoon, and I see a gas tanker stopped at a gas station on the corner of Kirkman and Vineland??. I get out of the car and this fat fuck store manager starts yelling at me that it will be a few minutes before the gas is ready. I said OK, we’ll wait and went into the store to buy a couple of drinks. Then this fat bitch starts telling me, “You don’t understand, no gas, you have to wait. Go across the street. They have gas over there. Otherwise, you wait half hour.” I said that was fine. He was like “YOu go now.” So I got pissed off and threw the drinks down and told that fat fucker to shove those gas pumps up his ass and I hope his business gets blown away. That bastard! So I politely, (and with no road rage whatsoever) peeled out all over his gas station parking lot, and drove across the street, where I waited maybe 2 minutes to pump gas.

Anyone else got any stories like this?

Damn lucky here. Managed to get through the whole storm with power and cable only went down for a short while in the early morning.

Took a drive to see some friends and check on my dad’s house this morning since he’s out of town. I saw some crazy-ass shit. Trees on people’s houses, laying across the street, on cars, etc.

Only crazy stories I’ve heard are from people trying to loot businesses. One gas station was open all night and people kept coming in and taking stuff and not paying for it. Why this dumbass didn’t lock the doors or call the police beats the hell out of me.

Other than that, we had a few deaths. One from some guy that must have been going too fast on the highway and hydroplaned into a tree, and a tree fell on a mobile home killing some women and injuring others (not that anyone with a mobile home is even safe to begin with).

There’s plenty of flooding, trees down, power out for many, but we’re good. Food, water, electricity and Internet are all working.

It does suck that it’s a holiday weekend, and we are not having fun! We’ve been tied up inside for so long it’s killing me. But I feel good after working out yesterday and then doing some extra sets of squats last night for fun.

Yep, Hurricane Ivan is next. And I’m sure the dirty Russian will pack a powerful punch. I don’t know how many more we can take. Florida looks like a disaster.

What can you do?
