Why? What don’t you understand? Why do you say “for a man his age…”. He’s 2+ years older than me. I’ve just dialed back my intake from 4000+ cals daily. It wouldn’t take much to hit 6k if that’s what I needed to grow.

I do it for the giggles- He gets fucking PAID to do it.
That’s what I was alluding to earlier on. You’re around the same age and outweigh him by 60-70 lbs, yet you were gaining on less than 5,000 calories a day on average if I’m correct.

Again, I’m not saying he doesn’t need 6,000 calories or that he can’t gain 20lbs in 6 months. It was just surprising to hear given his age and current physique. I ask alot of guys on here how much they eat, can I can’t recall a single guy in his mid 30’s + and under 240 lbs who ate much. That’s why it was surprising. Not unfathomable, just surprising.
I agree with you. It is surprising and probably not accurate. Typical Hollywood BS. I am amazed any experienced lifter would assume it was the truth.
No, you should be more amazed that when we speak of “serious weight lifters”, YOU probably aren’t the mould we are going after.

The only question is will he really eat 6,000 calories a day and add 20 pounds of muscle. Those are large expectations for a man his age in the time frame he has.

You dialed back from 4000?

But 6000 would be easy?

Please. 6000 is probably a phony number and you outweigh him by how much?

And since you are 40 please compare your current experience to what it was like when you were 20.
Yes. Dialed back a couple hundred. Not because I couldn’t handle 4000 or more. I’m not sure why you think “I dialed back” means “I couldn’t add 2k if I needed to”… ?

Yes, I could easily squeeze another 2k from what has become a baseline for me. I don’t need 6000 calories to grow. I’d be surprised on those times last year when I absolutely gorged myself if I didn’t shatter 6000k.

When I was 20, I was running 8-12 miles almost daily and rowing 10k almost daily as well as hitting the weight room (albeit with different goals).

I was probably eating in the 3k range, mostly carbs, certainly not the protein and fat intake I have now.

I am much stronger now than I ever was at 20. I eat more heavy foods (steak, whole chickens, protein, 8-10 eggs daily, whole milk, etc) than I did when I was 20.

If I had the mind to ‘bulk’ when I was 20, I have no doubt given the tenacity I usually have when I decide to do something that I would be much bigger than I am now 20 years later. However, I scoff at the notion that these days someone in their even late 30’s early 40’s can’t handle a large amount of food and gain significant muscle.

Likely to go from 180 to Kai Greene? No. But I don’t see any 20-somethings on this site going down that path, eiter. Able to add significant strength/mass? Absolutely.

Are we done interrogating me now?

Of course you can’t believe it…because you’ve never done anything like that.
I have added almost 100 pounds post high school and still look good and can run and jump. You?
I am currently 130lbs heavier than high school…and look like a bodybuilder in the off season at this point in my opinion. I have also made that type of gain in that time period and know how much food it took and I wasn’t even training several HOURS a day for a movie role.

That’s me in my avatar.

Any pics?
I am not putting pics of myself online nor am I going to say how much I can lift. I look like a dude in his late 40s that spent much time in the gym. I am not winning any awards but I get respect.
Well then, my guess is, for a MOVIE, they are actually going for “winning awards” in terms of how he looks on screen and his conditioning…so he will likely train differently than you and need more calories.
Looks on screen and conditioning usually are based on leanness and lighting, not bulk. Just because you like to carry extra fat doesn’t mean Jackman will.

I’m confused as to what this post even means. I am dieting now and am leaner at this weight than I’ve ever been. I don’t think anyone has a GOAL of carrying extra body fat so why did you write that?

its proven that good acting burns more calories than bad… why do u think leonardo dicaprio was so skinny in titanic?

It means you are pretty smooth. He will likely be far leaner than you or I when he is on screen. That is why the whole adding 20 pounds and 6000 calories is likely BS.

Ignorant and obnoxious. I am done with you.

Jackman is a few inches taller than me. I have no idea what his metabolism is like. I have the metabolism of a cement truck. He’s probably got like a Corvette. Just because I can gain on 4k doesn’t mean that HE will. Maybe he’s tried 4k and his coach says “need more dude”.

It’s not an age comparison, it’s an individual metabolic comparison regardless of age.

Bingo. The issue is METABOLISM, not AGE.

? What does my current condition have to do with anything? I mean, without pics, we can’t see how “conditioned” you are…but thank you for the critique.

Chiming in as an over 40 guy here, I can tell you that I have had no problem gaining mass and strength in the last couple of years just by eating a bit more (relatively clean), hitting the gym 4-5 days a week for about an hour and then throwing in a little this and that at home in my backyard from time to time.

With the time each day that Jackman has to devote to his trainging, along with access to professional trainers and nutrition coaches, he ought to be able to make some major lean body mass gains very quickly. No roids necessary and age be damned.

For his paycheck I say sign me up right now  I won’t commplain about the achey joints or the extra trips to Sam’s Club to buy my tp in bulk.

UNPOSSIBLE!

No one is saying he won’t do well, just doubting his 6000 calories a day.

Who here currently consumes that much?

How old are you?

I just told you in this thread that on a cheat day, I eat MORE than that.

I am in my mid 30’s. Apparently, you are saying my body will fall apart in a few years to the point that I can’t do that anymore.

Look, I am saying that I do have the knowledge in this area and we are discussing metabolism differences, not AGE. I am not sure why you are even arguing against this just because YOU can’t do it.

Jackman has a very lean build naturally…which implies a faster metabolism in and of itself. You won’t even show pictures of your own development so we have no clue how close you two are in terms of conditioning, muscle mass, or even experience…but I do know anyone thinking huge farts are strange in bodybuilding doesn’t know much about bodybuilding.

It’s true! I think there might be something to this whole eat and train with consistency and intensity thing…

You are how much bigger than him?

As I have told you I have lifted for almost as long as you have lived. It is different in your 40s. We have had a couple latecomers to lifting chime in and say they have had success. Of course they have but it comes slower. I would like them to compare it to their training in their 20s.

That anyone would believe that he is regularly eating 6000 calories blows my mind.

By your post count it is apparent that your hobby is setting up straw man arguments about minor issues.

amen. I can’t even begin to call myself a bodybuilder, but I have just in the last couple of months began working squats into my workouts and I can tell you that larger volumes of food along with a max effort (for me) squat can lead to some awkwardly timed bass notes.

LOL. If you AREN’T getting a few stomach issues and fumigating some rooms, you aren’t doing this hard enough.

No one blows up like Ronnie Coleman without leaving behind a few Brontosaurus sized droppings.

In fact, if you ever invite him, Rhul, Yates, Johhnie Jackson and Cutler over for dinner, you may need to buy a new bathroom.
