thanks Colin!
so…just moments ago…a serious WTF moment in the garage.
first off, when you go to your garage/dungeon gym in the middle of an ice cold/breath fogging up night with blue jeans, flannel shirt and hoodie, and a duct-taped thigh to train while listening to sweedish death metal…you feel like your awesome, even if in truth you are a washed up old overweight has-been meathead.
try it. you will see.
well, not much I can do but upper body stuff so I decided to be a beach-bitch and do bench and curls.
now I know that I have been typing that I cant bench anymore, cant even do pushups…well its true.
i figured i would do super high reps with like just the bar of maybe the 10kg plates, with a really close grip, and super set with barbell curls, and that wpuld be it.
well, I started playing on the bench did 100 reps with just the barbell with a close grip (3x33 actually), then started adding 5-10kg plates, and this is what happened:
40kgx20
60kgx10
80kgx10
90kgx5
100kgx5
110kgx2
110kgx2
120kgx2
130kgx2
140kgx2
90kgx10
each set i was telling myself “no pain this set, so i will stop here before something hurts” but not only were the sets pain free, but they were EASY. the trick i think was to almost let the bar drop to my chest free fall, and use a little bounce to protect my bad shoulder at the bottom, and also unlike when i do overhead work, i did not try to hold at lockout for a second or two…just a quick extension and right back down, thus my bad elbow seemed to handle things ok.
Ill have to look back, but I think this is the first time I have benched in months and months.
finished with some bb curls, 5x5x60kg.
a 300lbs close grip bench with only one functioning elbow and one shoulder, without even training the bench at all… that means with two shoulders and elbows I could bench like 600 easy, right?
right?
^^^^
crickets chirping…
right?
