HT's What The Hell Am I Doing Part II

volume day…

press-6x6x60kg, 1x1x100kg

(from now on “press” means overhead press. I dont care how it gets over my head, if i strict press it, push press, power push jerk, jerk, power jerk, split jerk, i do not fucking care. if it gets over my head and i can lock out my elbows for a second, it is a good lift)

dumbbell standing overhead press, 5x10x50lbs

bench dips 5x20

front squat 5x10x80kg, 3x3x100kg

ghr 5x7

chins 7x5 x1 chain on neck(27lbs)

ugh! done! no gas left in tank for prowler…do that tomorrow!

mirtha did trap bar deadlifts with 105kg for reps RAW…here is the vid

Last few:

sunday- deadlift 160kg 6/6/6/6
snatch grip deadlift 120kg 10/10/10/10/10
dips 10/10/10/10/10
barbbell curls 80kgx5 strict, 90kgx5 ricky bruch style, 100kg x 3 ricky bruch style

monday- prowler, 10 trips

tues- off

wed- press 80kgx5/5/5 100kgx 3/3/3

last set felt something pop on left mid back…feels more muscle than disc…pretty sore this morning…not sure what this means this yet.

chins bw 7/7/7/7/7

dumbbell press 50 x 20, 70 x 15/15/15/15

back better, but not 100%

played around with some light OL stuff today…first time doing and OL since the forearm issues…kept it real light and focused on speed and technique.

snatch complex- hang snatch from knee + overhead squat + snatch drops 5x3x40kg

clean complex- power clean from floor + front squat + split jerks 5x3x80kg

power cleans from floor 3x3x100kg

dips 5x10 hold at top for 2 sec

chins 5x10 x bw hold at top for 2 sec

the dips and chins with holds pumped my triceps and biceps like crazy. vein city!

holey shit…thanks!!!

yesterday

power snatch from hang 5x3x50kg

press 5x6x80kg

back squat 7x5x140kg

i promised i would never do back squats again…but warmups with the bar before the power snatches felt good, so i did a few sets anyway. these were rock bottom and RAW. no problems with the back.

I just started playing with some snatches again-

I also think I just modeled my next round of training here-
for old athletic types.

thanks for the ideas.

not sure you want to pattern your training around me K…

last night…

trap bar pulls, 5x3x400lbs last set last rep POW! high quad tear left thigh… fuck this is a BAD one.

24 hours later no bruising yet, but there is a hole in my lateral left upper thing and a swollen tender lump at my mid lateral thigh area. I am not sure if it is complete avulsion from the tendon/bone, and i still have active ROM (painful though) but this is a significant tear.

FUUUUUUUUUCCK! I just cant win!

why the FUCK is this always happening to me?

I felt great, this was not a heavy weight for me…it makes no sense.

now my training is fucked. I cannot do ANY conditioning with a complete busted thigh.

I am almost in tears typing this…I am so tired of my body jsut failing on me all the time.

I am so frustrated…sorry I am venting and being a bitch about this on here…I am just fed up.

my back, my shoulder, my elbow, my thigh… DAMN!

on the brighter side…

this is a recent pic…pretty sure this is the most lean I have ever been at this high of a body-weight. not sure how I am going to keep up my conditioning on a bum leg though.

That is some shit news about your thigh…

Sorry to hear that

I meant more of having several good core lifts and lots of conditioning work as a base

Hi guys,

It’s a friggin’ shame I come back to post and find Mike is hurtin’ real bad…
I was gonna fill you in on all the details of what’s been going on with me over the last 4-5 weeks, but this is not the time or place, so…

Mike - I’m just guessing but pretty close to home on this - WE ARE BOTH ADDICTED TO LIFTING HEAVY THINGS!!!
It’s kinda a part of who we are…it’s a huge part of our lifestyle…it’s maybe how others view us in a different way…it’s what makes us happy…no matter how many times we get hurt, whether it be the “aches and pains” kind, or the kind that needs surgery to repair…we still gravitate back to what we like, to what we are comfortable in, to the thing thathurts us time after time after time…WHY KEEP DOING IT??? We must be so out of touch with reality to keep putting ourselves through this day after day week after week month after month year after year. WHY??? WHY??? WHY??? I keep using the ‘we’ because I’m in the same boat as Mike is! Maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m right, maybe this is the first time I’ve sat down and felt bad for someone because I know if the same thing happened to me, and it has, that I would not be happy until I could lift, workout, train, whatever term you wanna use…it has to be an addiction, no sane person would do this…yet there is much sanity in it…it’s a sanctuary that we visit to make us feel whole…to make us happy with ourselves so we can be happy with others…after things heal up, the first things that start to come to mind are, when can we workout, how am I gonna train around this, etc etc…I am a bad role model for you, Mike, I’m a hypocrit and I live a fake life…my life is iron and I work things around that, when it should be the other way around…people keep saying, oh this should be a lesson to you…what lesson??? I already know the answer, there is no lesson, i"m going right back to where I belong…few people could understand this mentality…maybe YOU can Mike…I’d be a liar if I told you you should stop this madness, I would never take that advice from anyone myself. I’m a bad person to give advice, because when it comes to lifting, training working out, I would never takes someones’ advise to stop, to back off to use the machines, just break a sweat, take it easy…none of that is what I want inside…this is the point…people who lift heavy things routinely are differnet inside than most “normal” people…we push ourselves, we don’t need other stimulus, it comes naturally from inside…kinda same thing as being a wrestler…only a select few are successful, can go the whole season…why, becomes it comes from inside…just yyou and the other person in front of you…no back-up, no alibis, no excuses…certain sports put a premium on that…I’m sorry to say that but in my heart, I know you will be back somehow, someway…you won’t be happy any other way, will you?
Heal up, Mike, heal up good, and prove me wrong…
This was not meant to hurt you in any way, I have way too much respect for you, I hope you don’t take offense to it…some day, we will have a face-to-face and look into each other s eyes and see a reflection of us…
Not in a gay way at all, but I love you, Mike, guys just like you(maybe even myself)

thank Art… you put my thoughts down exactly…almost as if you read my mind.

36 hours and no bruising…but the hole in my upper thigh is still there and is swollen distally, and boy doez it hurt. feels like a potato is in my thigh…and there is NO strength in knee extension. sitting in the chair as i type this, i cannot do a leg extension against gravity.

minutes ago…

duck tapped the thigh over a pair of jeans, put a flannel shirt on and hobbled to the garage.

muscle cleans from the hang 5x20x40kg

band triceps pushdowns 100 reps

You are hardcore HT. I seem to remember you posting in the injuries and rehab forum that you feared you were going to have to quit and here you are a month or so later with a duct taped leg still hitting it hard.

I don’t think you’ll quit 'til you’re 6 feet under.

Respect.

thanks Bret…but I am not sure that is a good thing…lol.

yesterday

military press 5x10x60kg

chins 5x10x bw

dips 5x 10 x bw

csr 5x10

done.

edit: yes, duct tape was in use this day as well…lol

First, you’re looking good in the picture. Don’t know what to say about the injury. Trying to feel sympathy for you but the duct tape over the jeans is just to bad ass for sympathy. Hope the leg isn’t to fucked up. Like Brett said, respect.

thanks hel.

btw, congrats on your recent games…you have no Idea how jeaolous I am that you can still compete in the throws.

the leg is BAD. no bruising yet(WTF) but the hole in the upper quad is still there, and I still cannot do active ROM against gravity…

for example, sitting here typing I cannot do a leg extension.

I can walk now…so I am thinking of doing some light farmers walks for moderate distance for low body/conditioning work until things heal up more.

suggestions, thoughts?

No sugestions just Respek…

You look great in the pic Brother…

thanks Colin!

so…just moments ago…a serious WTF moment in the garage.

first off, when you go to your garage/dungeon gym in the middle of an ice cold/breath fogging up night with blue jeans, flannel shirt and hoodie, and a duct-taped thigh to train while listening to sweedish death metal…you feel like your awesome, even if in truth you are a washed up old overweight has-been meathead.

try it. you will see.

well, not much I can do but upper body stuff so I decided to be a beach-bitch and do bench and curls.

now I know that I have been typing that I cant bench anymore, cant even do pushups…well its true.

i figured i would do super high reps with like just the bar of maybe the 10kg plates, with a really close grip, and super set with barbell curls, and that wpuld be it.

well, I started playing on the bench did 100 reps with just the barbell with a close grip (3x33 actually), then started adding 5-10kg plates, and this is what happened:

40kgx20
60kgx10
80kgx10
90kgx5
100kgx5
110kgx2
110kgx2
120kgx2
130kgx2
140kgx2
90kgx10

each set i was telling myself “no pain this set, so i will stop here before something hurts” but not only were the sets pain free, but they were EASY. the trick i think was to almost let the bar drop to my chest free fall, and use a little bounce to protect my bad shoulder at the bottom, and also unlike when i do overhead work, i did not try to hold at lockout for a second or two…just a quick extension and right back down, thus my bad elbow seemed to handle things ok.

Ill have to look back, but I think this is the first time I have benched in months and months.

finished with some bb curls, 5x5x60kg.

a 300lbs close grip bench with only one functioning elbow and one shoulder, without even training the bench at all… that means with two shoulders and elbows I could bench like 600 easy, right?

right?

^^^^
crickets chirping…

right?
