HT's What The Hell Am I Doing Part II

nice work all around.

HT Vince Gironda advocated the v shaped dip station-
he had his own elbows out way that he liked

but I found the wider the hand position the better I can do.

the larger pipe diameter always takes the pressure of my wrists and elbows

Im not a big guy and I fine I am uncomfortable in most dip stations
yet the crappy pipes at parks are always better spaced

interesting…

made up my mind…going to get an MRI of my neck and back.

been in constant pain (low back) since dec 15.

hands and fingers going numb going on for about 6 months.

Im scared what they are going to find, but it is time.

anyway,

took 2 days of complete rest, then yesterday did:

strict military press 3x10x60kg, 2x10x70kg

standing barbell curls 40kgx15, 50kg x 10, 60kgx5, 70kgx5,5

shrugs, 3x20x120kg

prowler trips(sprints)

Ran into the neurosurgeon I have an appointment with at work night before last. He was nice enough to pull up my previous MRI (from about 8 years ago) and look at it, and discuss the symptoms I am having now.

the good news…He thinks the problem with my hands going numb is more likely carpal tunnel syndrome, not a cervical disc problem.

the bad news…He said there was no point in getting a new MRI… because as far as my low and mid back pain issues go, the symptoms are the same as then. My old MRI showed multiple thoracic and lumbar disks worn down and “nearly bone-on bone”…“diffuse disease” of my spine, “and I am pretty sure things have not gotten better in the last few years”…“you are DONE” and far as heavy lifting is concerned…and even if I stop now…“your looking at long term pain management for the rest of your life”

I am not having radicular pain…all my pain is axial…and I have diffuse degenerative disease, not just one or two bulged/herniated discs, so there is no surgical option for me.

sobering…

high rep high volume upper body stuff and lots of prowler for my lower body in my future I guess…

day before yesterday:

dips w BW/db rows 100lbs super set 5x10

prowler, walking, not sprinting…6 trips 500lbs. ugh.

ghr 2x15

goblet squats 2x20x 100lb.

today-

military press 1x5x185, 2x3x225, 5x10x135

chest supported rows, 5x10 x 3 plates all reps with a 1 sec pause at top

back raises, 3x20

tabata sprints on airdyne bike

today before work…

prowler 6 sprints

barbell curls, Ricky Bruch style…pretty much a reverse hang power clean. worked up to 100kg x 5. first time doing these…interesting.

pushups, 5x20…first time shoulder felt good enough to do pushups in months… will keep it light for now and see what happens, maybe start adding chains later if things go well.

thats it!

woke up today with NO back pain. went to garage and against better judgment tried to deadlift. slow and careful warmups, hit 160kgx10, 190kgx5, 240kgx1.

one leg squats 5x10

ghr 3x10

abds 3x10

chins with 25lbs 10-6-3 rest pause

so far so good.

here is the 240kg pull…

Nice pull HT! Big Barry came through before Christmas and as usual it was MEN vs.FOOD! lol Good to check your thread and see all is well.

Howdy
bench 135X20,225X10,275X5,295X3,315X3X3
hammer wide bench 3 plates a sideX10,4X10,5X6,4X10 all paused from the bottom
dips bw(287)X12X2,X10
cybex bench worked up to stack
Putting my cute briefs on tomorrow for some pulling. Still can’t compete with Colin’s Charlie Brown outfit. Overall, pleased how things are going in the gym. Trip home to Missouri was great. Hope you guys are doing well. Need to find a meet somewhere but every time I’m close to one work isn’t cooperating. Need to get under 275 too. Need to eat better too… Need to drink less beer too. Need to work on better technique too. Need to work smarter too. Need to make more money too.
WOW
Oh, pulled 495 for a triple in Missouri. Maybe I’ll wait 4 and a half years 'til I’m 60. Won’t bore anyone with the pissy injuries. Everyone else has more wicked shit going on. See ya.

strong as always barry.
well today was an upper body day…

push jerks, warm up, then 225x3, these were so easy and explosive, felt like if I had not had a good grip on the bar the weight would have launched through the ceiling, so I was feeling like I might go over 300 today. went to 245x3 for next set, not as easy as I thought it would be, but still pretty routine. then went to 265 and got crushed twice. fuck.

to punish myself, I then went down to 145lbs and did 20 reps. THEN I grabbed the 70lb dumbbells and did 5x10 strict standing overhead presses to MAKE my weak surgical left arm pull its share.

boy what a difference. my left arm each set was nearly a max set, but my right barely felt the weight at all.

I probably could have done 100-110’s with the right arm. when I do unilateral pressing movements like this, I really realize how much my reconstructed left elbow is holding me back in my upper body training.

biceps curls, worked up to 145x5, with some cheat, then 225x3 ricky bruch style.

bench dips, 3x33

Chinese Olympic lifter style dumbbell rows 2x20x70lbs.

done!

Thanks HT. Yesterday. Back to back doesn’t work but anyway yesterday:
acquired thick PVC pipe from one of my merchants, kicks my fat ass
bb row 135X10,225X10
dl 315X8, knees whining,405X6X2
mid shin 495X8,545X6,585X2
chest sup row 3 platesX10,4X10,5x6
Some days my knees just don’t have it from the very bottom. Probably a weight issue. Don’t want to scare anyone but going to try and lose 15 much cherished lbs. I figure it’s less to love.

today…

deadlift 160kgx5 RAW, 190kgx2 RAW, 200kgx5 belt and straps, 210kgx5 belt and straps

shrugs 120kgx30

front squat 3x5x100kg RAW

ghr 1x15

vid of deadlifts

thursday

military press 185x5, 205x3, 225x3, 155x10

dumbbell rows 110x20

barbell curls 4x6x115

band pushdowns 100 reps.

today-

deadlift 350x10, 400x10, 440x1

one leg squat 1x20

shrugs 350x10

Gout in my right wrist for 5 days. Fuggin pain. Went to Roswell, NM searching for aliens from space. Needed to rest anyway. Hope all is well with our crew. Going light today. Boring.

fuck barry… get that taken care of.

as for me…felt like total dog shit last two days…did not lift or do any conditioning…pretty much plastered to my couch and bed. not sure what was wrong, just felt run-down.

today felt like I had a litter more energy…and decided to go the commercial gym and get a workout in.

deadlifts 160kgx5, 190kgx3 RAW, then 230kgx1 EASY with a belt, then did 190kg x 14 belt and straps. the 190kgx14 has to be some kind of record for me…I’ll have to look back in my records and see.

chest supported rows 5x10, triceps push downs 5x20

tabata airdyne bike.

done!

Nice work fellas. I’m in week 4 of EC’s 16 week program trying to fix all that is wrong with me, well the physical stuff anyway. Lots of single leg movements and external rotations. It kind of funny to see me do rack pulls with 550 and then split squats with 20 pound dumbbell’s…lol

Stay Strong Guys!
