I guess it’s that time of the year to reflect on the previous 12 months and to set some goals for the next 12
My goals short-term are to compete in the USAPL NJ State Champs in late Feb.
My goals long-term are to feel better mentally & physically; to get a full-time position; and to be the best person I can be.

If I had a hand-off, I think I had more in me…Un-racking the bar over 300 was really tough for me today!

sorry i have not osted in a while. not long after my last post, i hurt my back again back squatting 200kg for a double ATG. i have to learn that as far as squatting goes, i just cant do certain things.

front squats? yes, if my left knee feels ok.

light deep back squats? yes if the reps are 15-20, has to be EASY

wide high/moderate depth box squats? yes.

deep heavy back squats? NO F-ING WAY

AND i went to alabama to vist my daughters for new years. so since then just playing around with machines. hig reps.

yesterday was first real day back into gym.

  1. deadlifts, 190kg x 5, ummm… NO. got the reps but back did not feel good at all. stopped there and went down to 150kgx15

  2. power squat machine, 2 plates x 50, 4 plates x 20, 6 plates x 10

  3. abds

  4. back raises x 30

  5. tabata airdyne bike.

135x8; 225x5; 315x3; 405x1; 435x1; 455x1; 475x1…Last two singles were “shaky” but no hitch! I have to do something to get more comfy with the heavier weights…my body is just not 100% & I’m trying to compensate and it makes for a very uncoordinated lift, lol! I get away withit when the weights are sub-max; as soon as I get over 405 that’s when it becomes apparent! Time will tell!

Found another real gym in O’Fallon, MO. Great place after a cold snow filled wilderness. Had to wait for a couple of members while they DLed. Got cold after warmup.

changing things up to an old and often successful routine of mine, that i go to when i feel i am not recovering enough. basically, push day, pull day, and a squat day.

today, pull day

my back may be “back”. deadlifts, 100% raw 150kgx15, 200kgx5, belt on: 230kgx1 EASY. then belt off, 1140kgx10 clean-high pulls(power shrugs). i asically deadlift the weight, then shrug and get on my toes, with a slight bend in my elbows, bringing the bar about up to my naval or a little past it. tremendous pump to the upper back.

hammer iso lat pulldown 2 plates each side x 20, 3 plates x 4-2-1 rest pause

Good to see your back on the road to recovery, Mike…your push, pull, squat routine seemed to work pretty good in the past so why not now!

Last set of RDL were tough. Both workouts were intense and I feel it. We are going to Tyler on Jimmy T’s 56 birthday Feb 27th. I had lost some weight but after being with him for 2 days I won’t touch the scales for a week. I made my chicken and dumplins and he ALWAYS has pasta with red sauce and it’s killer but the other crew members ate all the meatballs. That’s BS. Then there’s ice cream, choc cake, thin mint GS cookies and of course protein shakes that would clog any artery on the planet. The man puts strawberry jam, straw ice cream in the shake so WTF if it has a few fat grams, we’re fucking old. We laugh and have fun. It will be serious in Feb, we will not be backing thru the door.
