hey I’m just curious how many of you have seen or heard of this…it’s written by a fella named Bryan Haycock…has anyone actually tried an 8-week “cycle?” I really can’t figure out whether it’s geared more towards those who’ve stopped seeing gains or newbies lookin for quick gains or what? it seems like it may be cool, although I feel like only 3 days in the gym each week is somewhat meager. I’m thinking of compounding this with a modified HIIT (not HIT) cardio schedule and a special diet to get down to a reasonable bf% before going on a real mass-building routine…comments, opinions, flameS?
I’m in my second week of 15’s right now. I’m using it while dieting. You can read my whole plan. It is at the beginning of the “Getting Ripped Support Group” thread. Overall, what I have seen on the thinkmuscle forum and from a few that have tried it here has been markedly positive. I think it could be a good program for newbies and for those who have been around for a long time. If HST works well on my diet cycle, I may consider doing a 2 a day HST routine while on MAG-10 through the 10s cycle. I’d keep 15s the same and use Tribex,M and maybe Methoxy-7 through the 5s and 5s/negs. First though, I have to try it out myself.
when you say two a day…do you mean two trips to the gym? so in essence you’d be working out every body part twice each day? so at 2 sets per body part, ud be doing 4 per day? i mean ive got a masochistic side too, but i just cant afford drivin 10 miles back and forth twice a day to my gym =P
Pete, Do a search on the forum. It has been discussed a few times. Bryan even stopped by to answer some posts. I am in my second cycle right now. I ate to gain during the first one and gained 12lbs or so (approx 8 LBM). Now I am eating to lose fat and have added some HIIT stuff. I have actually gained 2.5 lbs and can see my abs now. It works great for either goal. HST comes from the lab. It’s based on solid science (the most current stuff available). It will work for newbies or people with 25 years of training behind them. Read all you can on Bryan’s site and give it a try, you won’t be dissapointed. Steve
Regarding the 2 a day, it would require two trips to the gym, but since I work in an exercise physiology lab with a power rack, oly weight set, powerblocks up to 90 and an adjustable bench, I don’t have a problem. I would only do this also if I was using MAG-10. I’m not sure sure how I would set it up exactly, but I would likely either do 1 set per exercise twice a day or I might split up the exercises and do 2 sets of half in the am and 2 set of the other half in the pm.
What do you do for work in the lab? That sounds like a great place to work.

I’m currently working for NASA on their countermeasures validation project. A countermeasure would be anything (drugs, exercise, etc.) that could be used to prevent the deconditioning seen during long term space flight. We use bedrest for a ground based study as a simulation of microgravity seen in space. Since we need to test all the physiologic parameters before and after bedrest, we have the aforementioned equipment, a smith machine, cybex squat press, cycle ergometer, treadmill and all the necessary monitoring equipment including a metabolic cart and ECG system for VO2 max testing. There’s more if you’re interested. I’m one of the exercise physiologists on staff. Sounds great, I know! Problem is that working for the government is full of beaurocracy and slow progress. Our project is actually struggling to stay alive due to a lack of good management that is beyond our control. Anyways, we were all set to do our first study, but at the last minute we were told to “stand down” because someone finally recognized the the countermeasure we were testing was a real waste of time. If we ever get running this will be a great job. For know, I’m just working on a couple of articles that I hope T-mag will publish and a few things to support our project.
I enjoy the program, it is much different from a traditional bodybuilding 4-5 split. Some people have had extraordinary results(Steve M.), but mine are more moderate (I at 5s, 1st macrocycle) mostly because I am eating CKD.
Here’s the upshot, no one has been able to refute the philosophy behind the workout. As I progress the workout, the natural periodization keeps me excited to hit the gym. I am no longer looking for my next periodization because I am excited to do another cycle of HST. Try it, but I wouldn’t suggest the 6 workouts a week on your first cycle, the key to growth is the time spent away from the gym.
Jason, NASA huh? Sounds very cool except for the funding issues. I’ve worked on grants before, and it sucks when they run out. Having the equipment available sounds good though.
Nick, I did have great results from my first cycle. I ate Massive Eating style at around 500-700 cals above maintenance. This cycle I am eating around 400-500 calories below maintenance at around 20-25% carbs and am having the same results as others on hypocaloric diets. I agree that 2 a days for the first cycle would be too much.
