How to Pick a Mattress

I spent $1100 on a nice pillow-top and don’t like it. It was great in store, but the firmness died down after 6 months (what a coincidence, when it was too late to give back).

I like a firmer mattress and I think the TOUGHEST thing to keep in mind is the RATE at which a bed will lose firmness.

A tip for sleeping, that I recently begin taking notice of:

Don’t sleep with a pillow for like, a week. Sleep on your BACK, put your arms above your head and maybe even intertwine your fingers and put your palms under your head.

This should retract your scapula and, along with sleeping on your back, should help “straighten” you out some.

Where did you learn this? I’ll give it a go.

Bumping this thread back up. I am about to pull the trigger on a Select Comfort Sleep Number bed (P6). Can anyone with long-term experience confirm that the bed is as good as it’s cracked up to be? You will find some very scary things online about it. I don’t mind spending the money if it is all it’s made out to be, but obviously am afraid of being stuck with a bed that is mediocre at best and has lots of problems.

Had it now for 4 years, moved it three times. No problem and I will buy a new one if this one ever dies. I cant stand sleeping on other beds, and I love how the wife can get her soft part and I can get the firm mattress. Love this bed no regrets.

Thanks, DJHT. I appreciate the feedback. Which bed do you have? I assume you snagged a king?

Yes sir, even though the wife is a small person she like a lot of room to sleep. Doogie on here is a friend of mine he has one also and would tell you the same thing. Its worth it.

BUUUUUUMP

Been shopping for a new bed recently. Gonna go look at some sleep numbers cause the bed I have now sucks balls. The fiance and I also tried out the Westin Heavenly Bed and it was nice. Her parents have it and recommended it. Anyone have any experience with that bed?

If any of you can swing the money, and it’s some considerable coin I am talking about, try a Hastens bed. Handmade is Sweden, all natural materials, and most importantly, IT WILL NEVER SAG IN THE MIDDLE. Lifetime warranty. I checked one out at the mall with an exgf years ago, my ex laid in the bed for 10 minutes and was snoring. I thought, shit, maybe the $6k to shut her up might be worth it.

lol.

I’m not really in the market for a 6K bed… more like a 2K bed.

That “never sagging in the middle” part sounds pretty legit. The bullshit thing about bed warranties is that they are usually 1 & 1/2 inch sag in the middle. No bed is ever going to do that without anyone laying on it. They’ll sag 1/2 to maaaaaybe 1 inch but never at rest 1 & 1/2 inches and the companies know that.

It sucks cause the two beds that we have now are both still “under warranty” but the companies wont refund/replace the beds cause they dont meet the standards for replacement. Its bullshit i tell ya! bullshit lol

Greg did you read the thread goof or just go to the end? Get a sleep number and you will not be sorry. Take it from your old black uncle with the laundry list of injuries.
