How to Lift for FREE at Any Commercial Gym

Well there’s something you don’t see often, someone from an older generation remarking on how lost the young generation is now. Would read again.

As for the actual issue, whatever. I’m going to pay my dues, because that’s what I feel is the right thing to do. If other people want to cheat the system… whatever. They can do whatever they feel is necessary. What is anyone really going to do about it, anyway?

You guys want me to tell you how to eat for free at a restaurant?

If you do this you could at least pay what you think it’s worth on the way out.

Having done this many times, I would say it works best when the staff are male (don’t give a shit), young females (don’t know what they’re doing and don’t give a shit). Older females especially seem to be the ones who will call you out.

Some gyms with those turnstile barriers don’t need your card to work, you can still just walk through but then it comes down to pulling everything off in the OP.
This. The only other thing I add is it much easier to be successful if at strategies outlined in the OP if done at a peak time. At 9 am they are way more likely to call you out then if you walk in with a big pack members at 5 pm.
Both comments are 100% true. The times I’m stopped it’s almost always an older woman (or a moralfag guy, hey there’s a few in this thread) I think they’re attracted to the Alpha Male behavior and they’re hoping you’ll put them in their place (read: bend her over and fuck her like the little slut she is) since older bitchy aggressive women are so used to being the dominant one, which is against feminine nature. They see you roll up and maybe they stop you at first because they love the drama and shit but deep down it’s because they want your cock. I could be wrong.

I agree about it’s easier when the gym is busier. If there’s no one there except you and the guy at the front desk it’s gonna be awkward the whole time you lift lol. You’re never gonna go back there though so who gives a fuck. Still going during busier hours is definitely easier to get in for free but I don’t like to train when it’s crowded if I can help it.

The other thing I forgot to mention is it helps if you’re a big dog. The bigger the easier.

As far as turnstile barriers, I hop over that shit with the quickness. Most of the time the worker isn’t even paying attention to you and won’t notice. You can tell as you approach if it’s gonna be a problem: are they eyeing you intently or reading a magazine/texting/etc. If the former then obviously don’t try it. Go for the friendly chat for a minute and see if you can get a free pass or whatever. Use your head.

It’s different. I’ve never dine and dashed, never will. Bullshit gym fees are more like usury aka 30% interest on credit cards. Tell me how to pay 0% interest and I’m all ears. After all, fucking banksters get money for 0% from the Fed but loan it out at 9% or more. Why do banks get a free subsidy (from me and other taxpayers, no less)? Fuck 'em.

I really don’t understand how this is any different than swiping food from the grocery store that you think is overpriced. Or maybe you do that, too. Egocentric generation I live in…
Look, to me it’s no different than if you’re in the desert dying of thirst and I roll up in my car. I have some water, but I say you have to sign over all your assets to me (lets say $100,000) and I’ll let you have it. Otherwise, you can just fucking die. Hey it’s my water I can charge whatever price the market dictates. You can pay it or go fuck yourself (ie die).

Gyms know that they have traveling lifters by the throat, especially serious lifters. They charge ridiculous fees and you can either pay it or go fuck yourself. The situation is a difference in degree, not in kind, from being in the desert without water.

The difference is that food in the supermarket isn’t 10 times the cost of other food and your only choice for eating. With a gym membership, you pay about $1 per day. To charge an inordinate amount ($10) to people who have no other choice where to train is totally different. It’s exploiting someone based on their circumstances.
Terrible analogy. 1. You’ve paralleled the need to hydrate (for our survival) to a “need” to workout. I’ve never known of any incidents of people dying from not lifting in a recreational gym. 2. No other choice? uh, find a playground…do pullups on the monkey bars…go to a local tire store and borrow some of the truck tires they’re throwing away and flip them…put cars in neutral and push them…run sprints…BE CREATIVE!

You’re a serious lifter. Fine. And you feel you have a need to train with real weights. Fine. You aren’t a serious enough lifter though to find a job that keeps you in one location where you can hook up with a serious gym and have consistency on your side. Maybe try to convince your company to cover the fees, so you don’t have to be sneaky . Or better yet, start your own gym, and see how fucking hard it is to make money and keep jackasses from using your equipment unsolicited.

Better analogy. You’re in the desert dying of thirst and I roll up in my car. I have some water, but I say you have to sign over all your assets to me (lets say $100,000) and I’ll let you have my filtered water. Or, you can have some well water for free.

Going to the gym for free is more like:

Downloading a movie that you would have never paid for in the first place. Does it really cost anyone any more money to use the gym?

As far as stealing groceries, I look at it like this:
When I travel to the west coast, I would have to have a Ralphs card to shop at Ralphs. If I just want a bottle of water or gallon of milk I have to pay 10x the price since I don’t have a Ralphs card - even though there are no Ralphs where I live so there is no point in having the card except for the 1-2 times a year I travel there, and they charge $40 a month for the Ralphs card (I know they don’t in reality).

Some people think it’s morally wrong, good for you. When you are dead you can be happy you never used a gym for free, because I’m sure that’s the worst thing you ever would have done.

Actually since all gyms charge $10, you should offer the well water for $100,000 as well. Sure, you can flip some tires or whatever for the occasional change up workout the rare time you’re away from home. For someone who’s mostly away from home, it doesn’t work and isn’t gonna produce good results. I know, I tried it.

Obviously not letting someone who’s dying have water and not letting someone train at a gym aren’t the same. But like I said, the difference is a matter of degree. Gyms aren’t charging you $100,000 to lift either. In both cases the person is exploiting your circumstances and charging you a shyster rate to get as much out of you as they can, and you have no other effective choice.

And I’m supposed to quit my job because of this? lol… That just shows how detached you are from the real world. Btw, I used to have a home gym in a shed behind my house with a power cage, weights, platform, dumbells, etc. I let anyone who wanted (family, friends and friends of friends mostly) train there for free so long as they respected a few simple rules to keep the place in order. After all, it wasn’t hurting me to let them do this. Some would even buy a few things and add equipment to help out. In the same way, I will organize the weights at a gym I’m using for free, spot others, wipe down equipment, etc. General rule is to leave it better than when I found it. If you have a problem with this you’re just a retarded moralfag.

I’d LOVE it if my clients ripped me off.

Your fees aren’t FAIR! Who cares if the price point is at a level where honest people have no trouble paying and you can sustain your business? It’s not fair to ME! Now gimme some free pics because I deserve it!

Feb 2008 and level ZERO. Thousands of posts, too. The people bitching about “stealing” are the ones who suckle from the teat of Biotest, taking all the free information, spending countless hours on this site reading and posting, etc yet they do not feel the need to support the company by buying their products (how the fuck do you think they can afford to give out all this free stuff, maintain the site, etc etc etc)??

And you know they’re using supplements, they just don’t buy them from Biotest.

Hey Dwarf, tell me how much money you’ve made from your clients by parroting information you got from tnation for free?

1 - I don’t know how anyone could say most gyms don’t offer a free trial. I travel constantly for work and can almost always find a place w/a free day or week to offer. If you can find a Gold’s, go their website, print off the pass and away you go.

2 - Places like Metroflex that do charge, I happily pay. I’m not understanding all these crazy ass analogies to justify stealing. If the rate sucks, don’t even walk in the place.

Read the OP. I’d spend over $1000 on gym fees every year if I always paid when traveling. That’s in addition to the $350 I pay for my yearly membership. Obviously I would just not train. They don’t need to charge $10 per day to sustain their business, either.

I hope I catch you in the desert dying of thirst. I will take you for every fucking penny you own and read your sarcastic post to you when you switch to my point of view.

Haha, yeah that kind of thinking may get you into trouble

Most of those women simply see themselves as moral police - they literally get their kicks from pinpointing other people’s faults and asserting their opinion as if somehow you are being intimidating/inconsiderate towards them or others. They’re the type who’re always quick to jump to conclusions (usually a negative one that accuses a person of having alterior motives)

Mostly though, they just like the sound of their own voice and will never back down because they’re always “right”

If they’re willing to let you train for free when you’re obviously not going to sign up for a membership (or do you lie and tell them you’re thinking about it? in that case why waste your time and theirs, just walk in) then how is it stealing when you train for free? oh right filling out some bullshit paperwork makes all the difference.

Some gyms offer free trials, others don’t. You’re wasting everyone’s time just to ease your conscience (even though you’re lying to get the free trial lol)

And you should sign up for a Gold’s membership if they’re at most places you travel to. You can get a travel card to use when away from your home location.

Not sure where you’re coming up with any of this. I simply follow whatever policy said establishment has in place. I’ve never lifted under the guise that I was even thinking about a long-term membership and Gold’s never follows-up after the fact. I always give them legit info.

AND, fuck you both.
My gym has cameras at the front desk and everywhere else. If I had let some freeloader jump the gate, my dickhead boss would have had me pay the 15$ day charge out of my lousy 9$ an hour wage. I’m not paying for your training, I don’t give a shit if you are a “big dog”, pay up or leave.

What’s sad is this thread changed from methods to train for free while travelling to a discussion on whether sneaking into a gym is moral.

If you consider this action stealing, don’t do it and GTFO of this thread.

Frankly I’m shocked this thread gets to keep going. People get timeouts and bans for talking about stealing on other forums. When I first clicked on this thread, I thought there were going to be ideas such as calling beforehand and making some kind of arrangement with the management, something I’ve actually done in the past. Or the idea mentioned earlier about checking for online deals.

Catch me in the desert? I live in Maryland. We ain’t go no deserts silly!

Here’s one more of those analogy things:

You mentioned you had a nicely appointed gym at your home where you would allow others to train, as long as they followed some ground rules. I take it no rule following equalled suspension or even a permanent ban?

Paying for entry into a commercial gym is a rule for that private enterprise. Don’t follow the rules, and you don’t get to use the facilities. Same ideas, just different details.

Yeah, I think you’re right. People love to feel morally superior to others, so any chance to jump on someone and criticize them they take. That puts them above that person in their mind. After all, there’s so much evil shit going on in the world. We all feel helpless even though we want to do something, all our options to help seem futile and we know they won’t make much of a difference. We can be the morality queen though, criticize others and feel righteous. World’s still fucked but at least we get to feel special.

It can be people bitching about Charlie Sheen or some random lady at the mall. Like last week, I spit on the sidewalk and some lady started yelling at me. I said “Shut the fuck up grandma (she was late 30s at most), no one cares what you think go knit a sweater or something and mind your own damn business.” That learned her. So funny to see the 180 in her demeanor, from righteous bitch to skulking away. They’re just like bullies, tough until you put them in their place.

Anyway my point is that all these moral on here might feel special and better than others etc but really if they actually cared about morals they’d take the time they wasted on here bitching, and go volunteer, work more hours to donate some money, something, anything. But that would require actually doing some good, rather than just pretending you’re good because you let gyms rape you? And then you defend them after lololol
